Just before the 5 came out last year the 4's were being sold straight from google for $100.
hoping for the same this year
It never hit $100, they were sold for $100 off the original retail price. I remember them hitting $200 and $249 as there was a huge rush for the phones when I was trying to get in on them when the discounts hit. http://www.engadget.com/2013/08/27/n...-drops-to-199/
Likely the same thing will happen and we'll see a $249 and $299 price point on the N5.
This is a clearance to get rid of stock if a new phone shows up, but Google might actually continue selling the Nexus 5 long term. We'll see in a week or so.
Same as you, except it was just one of their phones to turn me off for good, T720. But I'd like to think their quality has only increased after being bought by Google. How many Nexus phones have had bad build quality?

I've owned both the Galaxy Nexus, the Nexus 4 and 5. I'd say the 5 is not the best in terms of quality compared to the two before. The material used was somewhat lacking and I had the opportunity to compare five of the Nexus 5s and the tolerances were different between each phone. Sim card slot would stick out different heights on each phone, some were innies, some were outties and one was loose pressing the housing and the front display on a brand new phone. One also had backlight bleed so it got exchanged. Nexus 4 did not have these issues in as wide quantity as far as I'm aware and the GNex was okay... but was plasticky.
Motorola quality has gotten a lot better and they are a heck of a lot more open now than they were before since Google took them over (and divested them). Having seen the Moto X and owning two Moto Gs in my family/extended family I can safely say the things are well engineered and built and I'd trust them more than LG to build a quality phone.

The Moto Gs I bought for my parents are top notch and it's a tank. My dad is a clumsy oaf and he's dropped the phone more times than I can count. The last one was into a sink full of water while he was washing vegetables for dinner and it survived! There were no creaks on the phone, buttons and screen were solid. Wasn't the fastest thing in the world, nor was it the prettiest but hey, it's a cheapy parent phone.
If the phone passes the dad stress test then it's good enough for me Lenovo builds fairly good quality laptops compared to the likes of HP so hopefully this continues.

If that happens I'm jumping on it.Bought a stupid Sony phone that craches the web browser all the time.

At 5.9 inches diagonally, the Nexus 6 is larger than Apple’s new iPhone 6 Plus, which measures 5.5 inches. It will sell for $649, compared with $749 for the iPhone 6 Plus. Last year, Google introduced the Nexus 5 at $349
The Nexus 6 will be available in late October for pre-order (likely October 29th) and will be sold on Google Play and, in early November, in retail stores. It will start at $749 for the 32GB model and likely go to $799 for the 64GB variant. Carrier pricing will certainly be less on contract, but the Nexus 6 marks the end of “subsidized” Nexus phones sold directly from Google.

Nexus 6 hardware: it’s a 5.96-inch device with a QHD 2560×1440 pixel AMOLED display covered with Gorilla Glass 3. It runs Qualcomm’s brand new Snapdragon 805 processor at 2.7Ghz, and sports 3GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage.
The 13MP camera on the back has an F2.0 lens that shoots 4K video at 30fps, while the front-facing camera comes in at 2MP. There’s a 3,220mAh battery inside, and the device supports ultra-fast charging.
There are dual front-facing speakers and a soft rubber finish similar to the new Moto X, available in Midnight Blue or Cloud White.
