I would say unlikely to be town.

The consequence of picking a target that gets killed is death. The max benefit is doc protection or investigation / tracking results which are useful but the town the town already has them. It would give a small cop like ability. Makes much more sense as a scum role that works as a role cop.

That's kind of what I was thinking, seems like a pseudo cop or investigation role, since giving a full role like that to the mafia would likely be very powerful

What is the worst downside given for a townie power?

The ability to kill a townie accidentally as a Vig? Anything worse?

This seems like it would be much worse of a downside with little upside as a townie power.

Even if you flip town your play over the last 3 days has been horrible. I would have let go my initial accusation if you didn't flip out and go on your rant. But you kept going with 5 rants. I just wanted to know if he used it the first night (possibly on someone else) and then realized after the 2 night kill night his odds weren't in his favour.
