Tell you what, we will struggle this season. We could struggle badly. But going off the performances of 4-5 teams so far this season, we could try to lose and still not finish in the bottom 5. Lottery win is the only way we are getting McDavid fellas.

The degree of tanking that we are going to see this year when March/April rolls around will be unprecedented. Teams in the bottom 5 will do embarrassing, unthinkable things to get that #1 pick. If you thought you saw some tank jobs in the past (Oliers) just wait, it will be disgusting.

I see three or four teams pulling the plug real early this year. Calgary, if they pulled the proverbial plug aren't really in a position to tank out all the way to the bottom either. Who'd be made expendable? Wideman, Glencross, Stajan? All replaced by players close to their game. There won't be that much of a drop in production to get to McDavid.
