Person claiming contact with Dallas Ebola victim ‘exhibiting signs and symptoms’ of disease

Quote:
DALLAS, Texas – A person who claims to have had contact with the Dallas man, Thomas Duncan, who died of Ebola Wednesday is now ‘exhibiting signs and symptoms of Ebola’ according to an official.

The emergency dispatch center in the Dallas suburb of Frisco received a called from a Care Now medical facility reporting the patient just after noon on Wednesday.

Dana Baird with the city of Frisco said firefighter-paramedics were in the process of transporting the patient to a Dallas hospital.

“They are also in the process of examining clinical staff and other facility patrons,” wrote Baird in a statement to the media. “That number other people impacted is unknown. “

A news conference is now scheduled for 3:30pm local time in Texas.

^Reading the twitter feed at the end of the article implies that the headline is dramatically jumping the gun. It says that the guy has been monitored by the CDC since day one and only woke up with stomach symptoms and nothing else.

Canada to start screening for Ebola symptoms at all Canadian airports according to CTV news

Quote:
The Canadian Press requested an interview with an official of the Public Health Agency of Canada to get clarification on Canada's plans, but one was not granted. However, several hours after Ambrose made her remark in the Commons, the agency issued a press release providing some detail of what increased screening will look like.

The statement, from the new head of the Public Health Agency of Canada, noted there are no direct flights to Canada from the affected countries in West Africa.

Dr. Gregory Taylor said under the Quarantine Act, travellers to Canada who are unwell are supposed to declare that fact when they arrive in this country. Likewise they should declare if they've been in contact with a sick person. Anyone who is ill or reports having had contact with a sick person is referred to a quarantine officer.

Quarantine officers will be stationed at six airports across the country: Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Halifax, Ottawa and Calgary.

"Quarantine officers have the necessary training and equipment, including temperature monitoring devices, to conduct a health assessment and determine whether additional health measures are required," he said in the statement.

"Should these travellers identify themselves in this manner, a temperature check will now be administered."

That's great news.
As much as we say it's not contagious, it's also not something we want to screw with. Again, it might not spread like crazy but if you're one of the unlucky people that gets it, there's basically a 50/50 chance that you and a few people who are close to you die.

Which Birningham?

And Jordan isn't a Ebola affected country but if it's vomitting + other symptoms, even light, then why not be safe? Isn't this a simple blood test once symptoms are present?

Birmingham, Alabama.

Turns out that they were just being over protective. No ebola

So judging by the press release from the Canadian government we are still going to rely on people coming forward with symptoms?

I seriously doubt people can be trusted to submit themselves into quaranitne... Hell, I'd avoid it just out of fear of coming into contact with someone that actually has ebola...

I guess a British man died in in Macedonia after having Ebola-like symptoms. Although they are saying that it is unlikely that he had Ebola based on his travel history, they had to put dozens of people into quarantine until the test results come back on Saturday.

So, it sounds like the guy died of extreme binge drinking. That sounds more like the Balkans than Ebola.

I like how their ambulance is a Ford Transit
