Yup sure is.
However there appears to be some wiggle room, depending on device. I have an NHL.com account, and after getting my iPhone set up with Unblock US turned on, I seem to be able to access GCL and view games when I'm 3G, which I assume would have a Canadian IP.
To login (eg: enter your username/password) you have to be connected to the proper channel, with the correct regional IP. But once you've logged in things seem to work regardless of your location/IP address.
But yeah, for any traveler who's using a web browser to view games, it's going to become an issue.

For people having troubles with the geo-locking on the iOS apps. Have you tried putting your device into Airplane mode, and only enabling Wi-Fi? That way, it'll only be using IP based tracking?
I'm still holding off on buying GCL through NHL or Rogers, waiting out another couple weeks to see how this all pans out.

Yeah I don't blame you at all. For what it's worth I threw down the money for the NHL.com account because I'm reasonably confident that the browser based version will always be accessible in one manner or another.
But it's a calculated risk, it's quite possible I get cut off tomorrow and I'm out the cash.

Just for anyone wondering, I signed up for GCL while using a proxy, so that it appeared that I was living in Spain (Plus it was only 99$ USD). If I try and use my login ID and password at the Rogers login page it does not work. I don't know if you can use your Rogers login info through this link.

It is a calculated risk I agree, and one that I am gambling on as well. If I'm wrong then the $100 cost is not that big of a deal. As an experiment I tried signing up again through the proxy and it told me that I already had a subscription.

I saw some posters earlier asking about blackout restrictions forcing us to keep our cable if we wanna watch the Flames on GameCenter. I signed up through Rogers with the free trial until December 31, and it said right on the sign up page that there were no blackout restrictions. I set up Gamecenter on my xbox 360 and I was able to watch the game, but I had to watch the Edmonton feed. I don't know if there was another feed for Calgary, but when I chose Away feed it said there was no feed available. So I haven't tested it on any other game, but I think all the games should be available. Can anyone else confirm?
Edit: Also I had a Gamecenter subscription last season and I was able to watch the Flames games on my Chrome browser using Hola Unblocker extension and for some reason setting my location to Spain made it work

We all had to suffer through the Edmonton feed too, unfortunately.

Seems super flaky, works doesn't work it's a pain.
Any way to turn off the giant ticker banner at the bottom and the timer bar? This is so lame. How do rank amateurs do this better than a media/technology corporation?

Haha glad to help. Yeah if you bought it for $99 using a VPN like I did then you won't be able to log in through the Rogers GCL only the NHL. Just bookmark that link. With regards too getting rid of the bottom bar when you're fullscreen, I have no idea and it's really annoying. If anyone knows please post.

BTW: If you set your location to Russia or Bulgaria you can get the whole season for $75 USD instead of $99. Same restrictions, have to use NHL login, not Rogers. Worked perfectly on my iPad so far (no blackout yet), and on Apple TV with Unblock US (Need to get Apple TV to show you an NHL login instead of a My Rogers login)

So I signed up for a 1 year xbox live gold membership (around $50) expecting the app to work. It made no difference. So then I realized that there is a new app, with all this Rogers crap. Anyways, does this new app require the xbox live gold membership or did I just throw away 50 dollars?

Does not require a Gold membership anymore.

The new Gamecentre is pissing me off. I have to go through 4 or 5 pages before it actually lets me watch a feed.
When I select the quad view, how do I actually fill the other 3 squares with different broadcasts? I click "select game" in one of the 3 squares, then choose a game from the options that pop up, and it just leaves the entire window and opens the preview for the game I chose.
For ####s sake.
I've tried with Chrome and IE, and can't get it to work.

And the other change to GCL thats pissing me off is if I'm watching one broadcast, and want to switch to a different game, I used to be able to click on it and it'd start playing right away.
Now I click on a different game and it takes me to a new page showing the matchup, then I have to choose which broadcast to watch, which it opens in a new window for some reason.
They slowed every aspect of it down, and I can't get quad view to work at all!

When talking about problems using GameCenter I think we should indicate which browser/console and GameCenter version we are using. Chrome, Firefox, Apple TV, PS3 etc. Is it Rogers GameCenter or NHL GameCenter that is being used. I'm using NHL GameCenter with Chrome and the quad view works just fine. When selecting quad view, the 3 empty game windows have a button in the middle that says "select game". If I click outside of the button it brings that window into focus and then I can just click on one of the games in the score bar above to start the stream. If I click the "select game" button, it shows the games playing in the empty window, and then I can click on one of those to start the stream. It never leaves the page and it sure as heck doesn't bring up the game preview.

So strange, Rogers GCL on Chrome and IE were producing the issue for me, but now its working like it should.
Hopefully it stays!

For those Rogers customers who got a free preview until the end of 2014, that promo has now been extended to the entire season so you basically get Gamecenter for free.
Some minor details of course like if you're a wireless customer, you need to be on the current in market Share Anything plans.

The internet plans you need to be on are pretty new. I'm on a similar type plan but they changed the name so not eligible from what I see.
