True enough, although I think it might be better to try him out on his off wing after he's had some time to get used to the speed of the league (which he looks to be in need of) at his natural position.
It would be great for this team if he could play the right side effectively, though.

I suspect they are trying Gaudreau on the off side to attempt to help him on the break out passes. This year he's been about 0% at getting the puck out when the defense rings it up to him.

Why is gaudreau on the bench so much. Maybe my rose coloured glasses are clouding my judgement but the only two times he's been on the ice he's been noticeable. He gave it up on the break in but then got it back in himself, then takes the breakout pass in his own end and does a nice little move to avoid 2 blues and get it deep. Just don't get it

A) he had no chance on either goal
B) they are likely going to alternate for the first 15-20 games to sort out who should start most of the balance.

Well, his below-average play in the pre-season on what could well be his last NHL deal is what's buried him. Knocking down his own defencemen to directly cause a goal against in his first regular season shift as a Flame wasn't going to generate anything resembling good will.
