I'm not reading that giant wall 'o text.
Just came to say that Dion was an absolute trainwreck last night.

Even Genghis Khan would be discouraged by that wall.

Gee, does that poster self-aggrandize much? Good thing it's an 'open letter.' That way they will take it more seriously.

I still love the big lug but he was indeed the opposite of good. His lateral movement is terrible. Not below average - terrible.

He plays like one of these, except where the prong is rusted, so it turns really slow.
... and only in one direction

Wasn't the same after those hip injuries.
He went from being a pretty mobile and explosive hockey player....to having the mobility of Hal Gill.

The Toronto media was just crushing the "re-post people's tweets and call it journalism" angle last night.
CBC had a story up just after the end of the first period last night re-posting tweets of fans annoyed with Phaneuf.

How many billions of tax dollars do we pay annually for such quality reporting?

It was on both. It was Phaneufs efence that let his man through, then Bernier completely blew his angles on the shot.

The general conclusion from PPP can be described thus:
Or, perhaps this:
Now, Gunnarson's hip is a concern - and PPP notes this - but the fact remains that the Maple Leafs traded one of their top pair defencemen from last year for a guy the team itself figured topped out as a 4-5. St. Louis acquired Gunnarson for depth.
|
But what does what they played in terms of depth matter? Polak played behind the best top 3 in the entire NHL.
Polak is bigger, strong, healthier and better defensively.
Polak 4 on 5 Defensmen with 1:30+ PKmins/g (NHL Rank)
GAon/60: 4.43 (14th)
Corsi On: -64.94 (6th)
Off Zone Finish: 50.0% (5th)
Gunnarsson's hip is a much bigger issue than is mentioned. that article is from June 30th. He's still not healthy.

Haha. We can use his team to defer his being a depth defenseman, but his stats are good own when confirming how good he is?

BigTuna is an appropriate name because he always takes the bait gills deep.

So I can't use his stats because he plays behind the best top 3 in the NHL?

You can, you just can't discount one side and not the other. If his great team was the reason he was a depth defenseman, then maybe his great team was the reason for the good stats too. Just sayin.
Firstly, the corsi when he was on the ice is worse than when he wasn't (negative relative corsi). That means players around him got worse when he stepped on the ice.
Secondly, Nonis said he would be the 4/5 defenseman on the Leafs. That has nothing to do with the Blues

Once Gunnar is healthy, his ice-time will regress on the Blues.

That is utterly irrelevant to the fact that Polak is viewed as only a 4/5 on a mediocre Toronto team, according to his own coaches.
