I do recall it. I think that it was just a "special" one-off because of the playoffs and Heather was probably scheduled to do the next game anyway. But I also recall that it wasn't a particularly great performance. But that was a long time ago now...

Jann Arden... Now there's someone who should be singing the anthem at Flames games (said no one ever)

also lol @ Tegan and Sara mention. They are active, popular recording artists.

Tegan and Sara are popular, in demand artists that tour regularly.

A) There is no way they would do it.
B) That would be a weird choice. Anthem singing doesn't really fit their style

But if it's a country artist I might have to stop going to games. I couldn't sit through one anthem worth of horrible twangy singing, let alone two.

Yes, it was Game 6 against Vancouver. I was at that game and the crowd was so loud during the anthem, I had no idea how bad it sucked until after I saw the video.

According to Liscano's interview the other day, they didn't get in-ear monitors until the next season, so Arden wouldn't have been able to hear a thing, which will throw off any singer.


She did the anthem at the Grey Cup a couple of years ago, and sounded better...

The crowd was so amped for that game that I literally could not hear Arden sing. IIRC, she couldn't even hear herself, which knocked her off tune.

In defence of Jann Arden, while her music is far from my cup of tea, she is a proud Calgarian and seems like quite a good and funny person. That's got to count for something!

I still don't see her being the full-time anthem singer. I don't think that she'd want the job, and I don't think that the club would offer it to her anyway.

What about Jarome Iginla's mom, is she still in the Calgary area? I re-call hearing her sing at the dome many years ago - once.

Whoever they get to sing the anthem should follow Heather's lead and let the anthems themselves the focus. I too have attended lots of sporting events around Canada and in the US and what I always hate - especially in the US - is the singer that has to turn the anthem into some personalized free form jazz or rap rendition. Both the Canadian and American anthems are great songs. Just sing 'em and let's get on with the game.

Oh, and don't skate around while you sing. And don't forget the lyrics either.....
