When these are face-offs that can potentially change the outcome of the game, ie. last couple minutes, goalie pulled, up by 1, game 7 of the finals, then they become much more significant in my mind. Of course, they're not tracked like that but you'd think that if a team was consistently over 60%, there would be more of those scenarios where they're coming out on top. Of course, the complete opposite happened tonight as Backlund lost both of his last two draws so go figure.

I think they were laughing because you said "a more worse team".

brodie + gio coming on the ice is a huge relief. engelland is good. wideman is really not good

glencross is the most frustrating player ive ever seen. if he actually gave a darn 100% of his icetime he'd be unreal. hes the perfect example of learning from the past core (tanguay + iginla) and why our new group is so exciting compared to what we've been subjected to forever

monahan looked great especially considering he was supposed to miss the game with the flu

gaudreau and byron looked good. would like to see an actual center on that line and move colborn to the wing

hiller was fine. he's really slow but thats probably just being used to seeing kip for so many years and ramo/berra go for much more athletic saves than hillers positioning based style

vancouver did not look that good, at all. its great to watch them turn into the flames circa 2007-2009

looking forward to many more exciting games from the club this year go flames go

Glencross made the play with a great hit on the forecheck leading to the giveaway for Hudler's goal. can't believe the hate in here about him.

Anyone else surprised Burrows didn't get his clock cleaned? If we're going to dress three tough guys, you'd think someone would deal with Burrows for that Wideman hit.

I'm confused by the ref just changing his mind on the too many men call after he talked to sedin. I was at the game and the whole crowd saw it... It was definitely too many men and the ref caught it. Literally the whistle blew and you could count 7 Canucks on the ice at that moment.

I know it can be considered not to be too many men if the other team shoots the puck at them while changing and it hits them in the leg but that wasn't the case here... The Canuck had possession of the puck on his stick just a few feet away from the group of 5 other guys. I know the refs were bad tonight but that is just unreal.

No it was the right call to overturn it.

The 1 defenceman was changing, so the new player was on the ice at the same time as the man going off. However it was a forward that touched the puck, Linden Vey, not either of the defencemen involving in the line change.

Here's the rule:
When a player is retiring from the ice surface and is within the five foot (5’) limit of his players’ bench, and his substitute is on the ice, then the retiring player shall be considered off the ice for the purpose of Rule 70 – Leaving Bench.
If in the course of making a substitution, either the player entering the game or the player retiring from the ice surface plays the puck with his stick, skates or hands or who checks or makes any physical contact with an opposing player while either the player entering the game or the retiring player is actually on the ice, then the infraction of “too many men on the ice” will be called.

So of the 2 players that were changing, neither was involved in the play. It just looked like it at first glance.

To no ones surprise Bieksa cowers when #25 offers him to go a few times but is more than willing to beak off at #32. That caveman is pathetic.

Gaudreau should have a good chance to embarrass tomorrow, playing against an Edmonton team with piss poor team defence and all.

Your first post was actually funny, especially considering your history

Did you watch the game? Backlund was one of the better players once he got going, understandable considering his preseason injury.

Not a great game overall, but Gaudreau, Russell, Gio and Backlund were standouts IMO. Really liked Backlund's game. He's going to be pretty awesome this season I'm guessing. Much more confident with the puck and looks dangerous a lot.

I think overall the team didn't look bad; they didn't look good either though. For them to win games this season, they'll need to play excellent... because the Nucks didn't look good either, and still won the game.

The players I'm most happy with this game are: Brodie, Monahan, Gaudreau, Russell and Bollig
The players I'm least happy with this game are: Wideman x infinity.

I thought the guys we brought in this offseason looked good, Engelland was great. He looks like he'll be a solid #4 for us this year (which is scary, but apparently our GM knew a bit more than some other GMs about this guy). I really feel sorry for Smido, he's going to have an absolutely uphill year being Wideman's partner.

Also, anyone feel like Staj's time in Calgary's coming to an end? He's playing 4th line minutes, he has no A on his chest (as he did for some of last season), and he's not even doing PK anymore (clearly the two favorites are Backlund and Colborne now).

Johnny Gaudreau looks so slick. I feel he's going to put up some points this year. I don't think this year will be an overly fun one as a fan (outside of on Draft day next year), but the young guys will give us something to really cheer for.

Surprised at the love for Backlunds game tonight, I thought he was terrible. The worse forward for the Flames tonight. Directly responsible for the Kassian goal with his soft clear and he was making soft plays all night long.

Mind you, I understand that this was his second game this season so it's understandable but he's going to have to pick things up fast.

Wideman was terrible on the Backend. Would like to see Diaz in his place tomorrow.

Love Grats but if the oil aren't dressing a heavy tomorrow, Jones should take his spot.

Would like to see Setoguchi in too but not sure who he would replace. Will need Bollig in if Grats is out.

The sequence after the empty net goal illustrated to me all that is wrong with the players we've had here prior and why we need Guys like Johnny and Sam contributing soon. After the goal Johnny takes the puck and immediately rushes up ice and attacks the net splitting two defenders and getting a quality scoring chance. Then the puck goes the other way and the Flames not named Johnny Gaudreau play keep away in their own zone to kill off the final minute!?!? Can we see some passion and assertiveness please? Can we have more than one a couple of guys who try?

I Usually refrain from personal shots, but what a sad pathetic existance you have carved out for yourself.
Did you leap for joy at the end of the game that Backlund had no points? The fact that this is the only comment you have about the game goes to prove that you are troubled. Further more when Backlund has a great game or string of games you will disapear. You are the definition of a troll. I don't get pissed about it anymore, instead I just feel sorry for you.

- Regarding the game, I will echo many other comments. Johnny will only get better from here out. It was truely painful to watch him continually trying to break up the ice but relying on Wideman to get him the puck. I really liked what Wideman brought when he first came here, but recently he has been quite terrible. Happy to see Russel appear to have picked up where he left off from last year. In my opinion there were many positives from tonight.
