Heroin beer at the Saddledome

Someone at work was told about this and he asked me what this is.

I told him that some people feel that the draft beer served at the Saddledome is stronger than what you would get elsewhere.

Does anybody actually have proof that it is stronger or is it just anecdotal evidence?

Not scientific but I can safely say after 4 dome brews - I am done. Usually im pretty good with booze in general but man those brews kick my ass.

After nearly 28 years of rumour about the strength of beer at the 'Dome, we sought the truth.

It meant smuggling the suds out of the arena, avoiding the watchful eye of security, and then taking the sealed container to a local laboratory for analysis.

Specifically, we asked Exova laboratory in Calgary to determine the alcohol content of the Heroin Beer, to prove or quash the decades-old rumour that the lager is somehow more powerful than ordinary beer.

The results came back a week later, and the answer is very ordinary: 4.9% alcohol.

4 out of 5 scientists verified there is actually heroin in the beer. It was part of testimony in the court case where the Flames management and ownership were all charged under RICO with production, import/export, and trafficking of heroin. The case was thrown out in the retrial due to a hung jury, with the retrial happening because the first judge was assassinated.

I'm the same. Once I did 5.5 and was in really bad shape.

I've heard carbonation is the cause for the massive hangovers you get and that it's not a matter of alcohol content, but people thinking 1 dome beer = 1 can of beer when in reality, your overall consumption of beer is far greater than you think.

The part I loved about that story is, after spending 90% of the article "debunking" the myth, the final 10% is basically "but overcarbonation can get you drunk faster, and chances are Dome draft is overcarbonated."

In short,



Though people claiming the canned or bottled beer gets them drunk faster at the dome are falling for the same sort of mental/placebo effect as seen with gluten-free food.

I put heroin in all my beers, everywhere I go. I can confirm there is no heroin in that beer!

It might not have higher alcohol content but it definitely tastes different than other beers. It's got kind of a sweet taste to it that I've only ever tasted at the Dome.

I just can't do the heroin beer anymore. The price paid into the next day is just too high. I've since resorted to double high balls at the dome, which end up being just about as expensive in terms of dollars, but much easier on the body the next day.
