Interesting turn of events, I look forward to seeing how this plays out.

Haha I know many Norwegians like this, hostility towards evangelicals is pretty high.

That's terrible behaviour on the company's part, they'll probably get nailed for it and deserve it. Even if that's the reason you don't hire someone you don't SAY it.If they can demonstrate she didn't meet the requirements they might avoid paying her money.

I can't believe she pulled out the "you're intolerant of intolerance" card though.

I love how she suggests Viking's "chose" Christianity, not really an accurate view on history...

Also as a viking I have to say just in the fact this man has an epic beard, he is right and she is wrong.

Here is the company's careers page:

http://www.amaruk.com/en/info/career...ain_guide.html

I have no doubt it has been edited, as the CBC screen shot included a requirement for a science degree, but there are other problems that they are going to get nailed for, such as sending in a photo with your application.

I also didn't see any suggestion she tried to promote her faith on her application.

I see they do business with aboriginal cultures as part of their product. However, their behaviours in this clearly indicate that they don't have a clue about Canada.

I think this company needs a strong lesson in Canadian values and what it means to do business in Canada.

Guess these guys have never heard of the human rights commission. They'll regret sending that scathing email to someone who had nothing to do with the destruction of their Norse culture.

I think they are embracing Canadian values. I think the problem lies with the University on this one. How are they able to proclaim they accept all denominations and are open to anyone, then turn around require all students to sign this covenant against homosexuality?

I commend the basics of the argument the company has, however, when the engage in their "opinions" as they call them I think they went too far. They should have held back on a few of the comments but legally I doubt they will have a reprimand for not hiring her. I do think they may be legally liable for their commentary though.

I like that businesses refuse to hire from a certain school based on that school's beliefs. Why not? We hire based on school's good reputation, why not the reverse?

I hate the title here though, no where does it say she wasn't hired for being Christian, that is a separate argument. She was not hired due to her University's beliefs which she attached herself to when she signed the covenant and when she graduated from there. CBC is using leading language to create an inflammatory response, that is disappointing but standard behaviour for the news.

These people are just as bad as her.

They're going to get completely nailed by the Human Rights Commission and rightfully so.

It feels like they discriminated against her because of her school and not because she initially broadcast her faith.

The company is clearly run by and staffed by morons with an un earned superiority complex. They preached just as bad as an Evangelical Christian.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely don't have a problem with their views, but from a business perspective they're idiots, and came across as judgmental and mean spirited and clearly broke a bunch of discriminatory laws.

Enjoy writing the check you bunch of schmucks.

What do you mean "Just as bad as her"?

All she did was put the name of her university on her application, these guys were the ones who started the whole pissing match. Sure she fired back, but these guys are clearly just being dicks.

If this chick was standing in a rally protesting gay marriage, I'd be just fine with telling her she's boggoted and backward. But all she did was apply for a job, with absolutely no mention of her stance on any issue at all.

I mean, it seems we both agree that the guys from this company are in the wrong, but I'm curious as to why you worded it the way you did.

I think it was a pre morning coffee rant where I totally put in the wrong context.

I meant that these people are as bad as the evangilicals at that school.

My bad

She gives a full page breakdown on the religions of the world, their number of followers, and their views on premarital sex/the definition of marriage. Had she just emphasized that these particular views of Trinity Western are irrelevant to her application and do not necessarily represent her own, she would have overwhelming support.

That part was funny to. "There's 2.2 billion Christians and here's what I think they all believe."

EDIT: Not to mention it was a complete straw man since she framed it as premarital sex rather than what he initially said.

I think a simple 'No' would have sufficed.

Trinity Western is a joke, and were I to see it on an application, that application would be sorted into the "No" pile immediately.

That is all that was required. Unfortunately for Olaf, his self-righteous need to make a statement is going to bite him in the ass.

Exactly my thoughts. If a CV ever crosses my desk from a Trinity Western (or Liberty University, or Bob Jones University, etc.) graduate, I'd immediately discard it without granting an interview, but I sure as hell wouldn't send a self-righteous letter to the job-seeker explaining why. A simple, "Thank you for your application, but we are choosing another candidate" note is all that was needed.

Yeah this guy came off real unprofessional and petty, what kind of CEO starts trading jabs via e-mail with a job applicant he just rejected, and then his co-CEO joins in? They just wanted to ridicule this girl for going to a Christian school

Asking for a photo on an application is common in Nordic countries, in Iceland everyone attaches photos to resumes. Its to ensure the ugly people don't get work.

I find it interesting that a few of you would completely reject a candidate outright based on going to Trinity Western.

Why is that exactly?
Does the school really have that bad of an acedemic record?
Is it simply because it's a "Christian" school?

If they have an accredited biology program, does that not mean it stands up to provincial standards, and thus the religious aspect of the school should be irrelevant?
