The Penticton thing, IIRC, was lower body groin. Don't know when the upper body thing happen.

The quote the other day said he got the upper body injury in Vancouver, and after the Winnipeg game realized it was serious.

Sucky news, but hopefully he recovers fully and can come back to dominate when he's ready. Recovery at his young age is better then someone in their later years trying to come back from an injury like that. I'm not going to pretend I know how it happened, but hopefully this motivates him to bulk up before he's ready to play in the NHL so something like this doesn't happen again.

I'm pretty sure he had a couple shoulder injuries in junior last year that he was highly regarded for playing through. He had trouble doing pull ups likely due to that injury that hadn't fully healed. My suspicion is he has never fully recovered and it's been made worse with the pre-season play against men.

I would really like him to just bite the bullet, get the surgery, and rehab fully while he's still young and malleable. Then go hard and get ready for camp next year. He could be available for the second half of the junior season if he does it soon.

Too small! Not ready to play against men! Awful medical care! Blahblahblah.....

Hope he fully recovers and his career isn't derailed before it starts, regardless of what sweater he wears.

Let's be clear here that "bulking up" is not any sort of reliable method for injury prevention.

Considering that he won't be able to play or do upper body strength training for quite some time, I hope he comes back next year with legs like tree trunks.

edit: Since this happened before he was technically cut, does that means he makes his NHL salary this year?

If he doesn't need surgery, will he still miss the WJC? Sounds like thats what Bob is saying but wouldn't rehab be a month or two?

Ditto. Shoulders are tricky, so hopefully he gets it sorted out and doesnt struggle with it on and off for his whole career.

We'll keep Dr. Krieger as Plan B...

This really sucks. For once I was actually looking forward to the World Juniors.

I'm guessing the Flames wouldnt release him if hes just coming off a serious injury.

As soon as McKenzie said the recovery timeframe was "months", any chance at the WJC were gone. Hopefully he can be healthy in the new year and return to Kingston for the back half of the season.

I was wondering this too? How will IR work for him, salary wise? Also what does this mean for his ELC and sliding?

In the event that his own development is set back a year because of this, the silver lining here might be that he will still be eligible for the WJC next year.

Along that line, can he remain on Flames IR and get the surgery and do his rehab while under the eye of the Flames medical staff?

I may be wrongly assuming that if he gets cut, then he's junior property again so I was unsure how proactive / involved the Flames are allowed to be.

Same issues RNH had perhaps?

He had the surgery and is better than ever now apparently.

No, but at 180lbs and with his style of balls to the wall play, that's just asking for injury trouble against full sized NHL players at that size. Getting bigger can only benefit him.
