McGrattan is the worst "hockey" player on the team by a fair bit

He's not on the roster because he's a great hockey player.

So has Gaudreau officially made the team to start the year?

As far as I know... not officially..
But is there any doubt he hasn't? Best player in pre-season by a country mile.

We will find out tomorrow. Teams have to be cap/roster compliant.

The #Flames have assigned defenceman Tyler Wotherspoon to the @AHLFlames.

He was expected to improve his two-way game over the off-season. He did. Now fans are upset he didn't put up more points. That sounds pretty frustrating to me.
I think anybody else in the same situation would feel just as Baertschi does now. He'd taken another punch to the stomach and now he'll be expected to prove himself in Adirondack. I think that's a difficult position to be in, and I know fans will get on him again if he doesn't get off to a strong start.
I feel bad for him because he's an unbelievably sincere and level-headed person and I think he's earned the opportunity. I think the NHL is the best place for his development.
Part of the reason why I mentioned Colborne was because, as it turned out, the NHL was pretty good for his development, even though he didn't earn it (as some feel about Baertschi).

Not that I disagree, I think your right on some of this, but Sven and Joe are apples and oranges. It's about asset management. If Joe could have gone to the AHL, he likely would have just like all his previous years. If Sven had to go on waivers this year he'd still be on the team. Joe put his time in down there, Sven hasn't. I also believe they are being hard on Sven to bring his expectations back to reality. Feaster really screwed that part up, when you give someone the moon, it's really hard to take it back. I really believe they are doing the best thing for this asset. Why would they sabotage it, in either scenario if they like him and want to keep him they feel this is best. If they don't like him and want to trade him they need to maximize his value, they must think this is best.

He seems like a guy who would have had a legitimate shot at making the team if not for an injury. Hopefully he will get a ton of ice time in the AHL and when injuries open up a spot he'll be able to step in and stick. I really like his game.

If Diaz gets a contract, Wotherspoon has to be getting sent down IMO.

Isn't there still 2 or 3 roster cuts to make? Or can they carry extra on the injured list?

Not sure if Bollig has played RW but we have a choice between Byron, Colborne, Hudler, Jones, Raymond and Setoguchi who have all played RW.

Not really surprsed by the players sent down to the baby Flames, I only really expected 1, maybe 2 at a push, to make the opening night roster, there were just too many bodies. Johnny came in and earned that spot with his overall play, so cannot complain.
The team were never going to sign players over the Summer, UFA or otherwise, and then send them down, that doesn't go down well with agents/players, regardless of whether we think that is right or wrong it's the nature of the system.
Injuries will happen and some of these players will get their chance as the season goes along. Opening night is not the only game of the season.

I would suspect, Potter and Granlund will be placed on the IR.
As for Bennett, the question is how severe is his injury......

Do players on 2-way contracts earn their NHL pay while on the IR because they are on the NHL roster, compared to if they are reassigned and still sit out due to injury?
