Exactly the reasons I'm eagerly waiting for the Z3 to come to Canada! The 8/20 megapixel camera sounds good too.
I've been out of a contract for several months now on my old Samsung Galaxy. I liked the Z2 when it came out but wanted to see what the iPhone 6 would have to offer. My iPad is great and I really thought I'd own an iPhone next but when it was announced I just wasn't excited about anything they added. Now having held and used both the 6 and 6+ some what (relatives got both on day one), they're just not for me.
Anyway, I hope the Z3 compact comes out the same time as the Z3. That's probably the one I'm leaning towards.

Sony plans to sell the Xperia Z3 Compact in Canada for $599.99 outright at Sony Stores, according to pre-order information.
A reader sent us confirmation that he was able to make a pre-order for the 4.6-inch Xperia Z3 Compact at Toronto’s Yorkdale mall, confirming our suspicions that the device would be sold close to the release date of the larger Xperia Z3, which is slated for October 31st.

Consumer reports tests the Battery life on the new Iphones, not surprisingly the claim by Apple was off by a fair bit.
Iphone 6S Apple claim 24hrs, CS result 17hrs.
Iphone 6 Apple claim 14hrs, CS result 10hrs.
Both big improvements on the previous 8hrs on the Iphone 5s.
As for comparisons, CS results on Samsung G5 was 20hrs, and LG G3 with 19hrs.

Does anyone expect a company to do anything but over sell and under deliver nowadays?

Wow, am I reading that right? Sony is going to be available on multiple carriers and not just only Bell or Rogers anymore?
Though I do see a decent amount, maybe they can start making more of an impact in Canada.
In other news Telus is already carrying the new Moto X. Was surprised when somebody told me this as there was absolutely no news on the actual release.

Yep, and Sony will make a huge distributed push by selling directly from Sony stores and online. They are really trying to up their sales numbers for sure.
It was one of the limiting factors for Sony, one thing was price and the other was carrier exclusivity limiting their sales numbers. Their phones are fantastic otherwise since the Z generation came out. Thing that annoys me though is the short release cycles they go through.

What don't you like about the short release cycles? One of the reasons I didn't buy the S5 was because it had already been out for four or five months when I was ready to upgrade. With Sony, you're only ever a few months in either direction for their most modern phone. You can always buy something very up to date. I can't think of a drawback for the consumer with how they do things.

Well it's seems like by the time you want to buy a phone from them and it's available in Canada, they are already set to release another one in a month or two. Also the concern is software support afterwards. Will they still keep doing timely releases on their non current flagship is my worry.

I'm somewhat interested in trying this phone but it seems you can only get the 16GB version here, which is useless. Why would TELUS only offer the smallest capacity version?

AFAIK, no phone has been offered in multiple size capacities other than the iPhone. Saves them effort on trying to move difference stock should one not be all that popular. For something like the iPhone 5C, the 32GB went on clearance relatively quickly because of the tiny amount of demand for it.
If you're not going to offer removable storage, 32GB needs to be minimum. Hell, even with removable storage everybody should be at 32GB now.

64GB is the sweet spot, in my opinion.
After the OS is loaded, base apps and other basics, I have about 48GB available. This is on my OnePlus One.

Has anyone picked up the Samsung Galaxy Alpha yet? I'm fully upgradeable and my Nexus 4 doesn't like chargers much anymore...

So there have been tests against Google Now, Siri and Cortana and it looks like Google Now edges out the competition in terms of search accuracy and results.
Quote:
Stone Temple presented each service with 3000 voice queries, and tabulated the results. Not surprisingly, given Google's specialty in search, Google Now was the clear leader. It returned the most enhanced results and complete answer by a wide margin. The study cross-checked the queries with web searches on Bing and Google. Interestingly, Bing returned more complete results than Cortana, indicating that Microsoft could improve its mobile assistant by more fully integrating it with its search engine.
The study also checked a bunch of Easter eggs — What does the fox say? What is love? — but doesn't provide any concrete data on which system has the best sense of humor.

Was hoping for more info on the Xperia Z3 Compact at the Sony Event today. Sounds like it was just to unveil a different version for Verizon in the US. No new info for Canada.
