The Flames are trying to win the Cup. They understand there's no way they can do that this year. So, they're trying to set up the team in a manner that will give them the best chance to win the Cup as soon as realistically possible.
Not sure how trying to be the best as quickly as possible could be considered tanking.

....but it is a reason right? God, I knew it! We are tanking...oh noooooos!
Again, People just got used to the "do anything to make the playoffs" mentality we've had for years and now that they're doing things slowly people are over reacting.

I always find it interesting that people call it tanking. What is management supposed to do, sell the farm to compete now?
That is what got us into trouble in the past. We have to be patient and leave room in the following couple seasons for our draft picks to jump into the lineup, not just play for the Flames but lead the team to the playoffs.
What do people want here? A rebuild or win now doing something that we all know doesn't work. Seems funny to me.
If anything, the management is giving the guys in the AHL a chance to gel together and learn together with hope that in the future they will be on the Flames and winning in the NHL. We finally have a development system in place, it won't work over night.
I am fine with everything where it stands right now. Feaster has setup this rebuild and now we have better hockey minds running the rebuild. I think the future looks bright for our club (AHL development and NHL).
We will suck this year but it doesn't mean we are tanking. Tell that to our vets who still talk about the playoffs. Gio last week in an interview said they will be pushing to make the playoffs, imagine the message he sends if he doesn't say he wants to win?
A better question for the poll would be: "Would you be upset if the Flames finish in the bottom 3 this year? Yes or no?"
My answer would be no. No means the Flames are doing things right by taking their time developing prospects and not signing over priced free agents for long term contracts in the attempt to make the playoffs this year at any cost.. been there done that. No thanks.
The pleasant by-product of this plan is we get a decent shot at a top two draft pic in the 2015 draft.
"This post is terrible" is my favourite poster on this site.
I hate myself everyday for not opening that account.
To OP, no I don't think a tank job is in the works. The Flames have made roster changes (whether you agree with them or not) that are made to make the team better.
As has been mentioned. Goalie is the best way to tank.

Ok...lets open up the conversation a bit because its apparent 90%+ people don't think the Flames are tanking and that is what I expected...
Define what you think is tanking...
Go take a look at what the 76ers are doing in the NBA. That's tanking. Selling all presently valuable assets, making no immediate attempt to replenish lost production in the near term, and stockpiling as many assets for the future as possible. Basically not caring about the season at hand, but the team 3 years from now.
It's IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to say that the Flames are tanking for one reason alone: the signing of Jonas Hiller. It's a short term deal, he's better than anything we presently know to have in net, and he's a veteran. If they were tanking, Joni Ortio and Kari Ramo would be thrown into the fire to see what we have, and almost certainly we would lose more games...which flies in the face of everything to do with tanking.
The Colorado Avalanche of 2012/13 is probably the single most obviously blatant tank job in recent sports history going from 29th overall to 3rd overall and winning the Western Conference while icing an identical lineup with the addition of Mackinnon.
I've yet to hear a single compelling argument against that being a massive tank job.
And the Edmonton Oilers goes without saying. They had slogans, draft-lottery parties, Devan Dubnyk and everything.
Even the luckiest of teams couldnt just fall ass-backwards into 3 consecutive First Overall picks without some effort and strategy.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

I can accept the Denver argument..................but really Locke, Mulletville? You are better than that........We all know massive ineptitude is not tanking.

Once happens, twice is a coincidence but three times is a pattern.
Then again, this is the Oilers we're talking about. They are that terrible...
