I could see some agents looking at this as a mechanism to drag salaries and keep players from getting opportunity to earn the big bridge contract like the Oilers give out like candy. Agents can have a lot of sway over players and they only get paid when the player gets paid. Teams that don't pay, or have restrictive practices may have agents encourage their players to show little to no interest in the certain teams. I would hate to see Calgary turn into one of those teams.

Where did you come up with some of this?

Ya seriously. I 100% agree with this. If players want to win they might have to forget about themselves and their payday. There is opportunity to become a top 6 player here. The players trying to steal jobs better make a difference and not just be as good as a vet. They have to bring something else that the team is lacking already.

Johnny Gaudreau (sick) will not practice today. He is day-to-day.
Wes Gilbertson@SUNGilbertson4m4 minutes ago
#Flames C Markus Granlund is skating with teammates today. Not surprisingly, no sign of C Sam Bennett, who has upper-body injury.
Wes Gilbertson@SUNGilbertson3m3 minutes ago
#Flames C Markus Granlund, it should be noted, is wearing a caution jersey. Won't be an option for Wednesday's opener.

Doesn't seem to have hurt Detroit. Nyquist and Tatar played two seasons in the AHL. Brendan Smith, their best d prospect, played three season in the AHL and only cracked the lineup last season at 23. Tampa under Yzerman are also taking this approach - Palat and Johnson both played two seasons in the AHL. Gudas played three. Seems to be working out okay.

Poor Gaudreau. If he has the same virus as I do and the one going around he's likely not playing Wednesday. This thing has had me out for a week.

Lidstrom Datsyuk and Zetterberg made Detroit GM seem a lot smarter than they actually were. Any examples of significant players that were in the AHL for longer than Baertschi's 73 or Rienhart's 130 games?
Did it hurt Brodie to only have 115 AHL games?

Wasnt referring to a hangover... more so the travel to the peg, play a game, fly home and then have a late night drinking. I know I would run a 50/50 chance of being sick a couple days later.

Doesn't seem to have hurt Nyquist too badly. Also Tampa kept Palat, Johnson and Gudas in the AHL for some significant time and they turned out okay.

Hang on. So Baertschi is still 42 games shy of Brodie's AHL experience, and I think we can agree that Brodie developed okay. But Baertschi is being ruined.
And all six of the guys I cited from the Wings and Lightning - who are all considered very good young players - played more than 130 games in the AHL.

They look at trends and the earning potential of their clients. Holding a player back in the minors hurts their earning potential and is a situation to be avoided.

This is so full of BS. Erixon wanted a shot right away, but our d was too deep. It had nothing to do with developing players. It's interesting that you know how players feel.
Columbus held back Johansen, so no prospects will want go to Columbus. Detroit is out. Oh, Chicago too. Tampa is out. Rangers with Kreider mean no one will go there. Tyson Barrie in Colorado, so they're out. Anaheim is out. Oh, Boston is out too. Hmm, I could do that with almost every organization but one. Can't find a top pick with Edmonton that didn't get to play right away

The only cut I didn't expect was Ferland. But Raymond and Backlund came back in the nick of time.
I expected Baertschi to get cut, he would benefit from more time in the AHL to build up his confidence. Hopefully this doesn't come as such a shock as last year's demotion did and he has a strong start to the minor league season. His direct competition for a call-up will undoubtedly be Granlund and Reinhart. The next few months are probably the most important of Baertschi's career, he needs to shake off the funk.
No idea what the plans are for Diaz, Potter and Wotherspoon.

Flames are in the position where they can watch the waiver wire for a better option than Diaz. Perhaps they are looking for a way to open up more minutes for Wotherspoon (requires a trade or waiving a vet) before signing Diaz.
My thought - Potter and Wotherspoon are sent to the AHL. The former for depth, the latter for bigger minutes until Treliving can make a move/needs to fill an injury. Diaz is signed or released from his PTO should Treliving see something better on the wire in the next 24 hours.

Why are Glenny and Hudler playing on the wrong sides? These practice lines are always weird.
Hope Johnny just drank too much yesterday.

I would have thought Colborne would have gone back on Monahan's wing considering the success they had last year.
