Ugh, not happy they signed him, but at least he's starting in the AHL. There aren't a lot of physical players in their d-man ranks, but I can still think of several guys I'd rather have. Like Brookbank for example who was just released from his PTO.
I watched O'Brien play in a preseason game the other day. He's still awful. No spin-o-ramas thankfully, but he's terrible in his own zone and doesn't even really use his physical edge all that much. Looked exactly like the player we felt we had to buy out because we had zero use for him.

To be fair, SOB is being paid lots of money NOT to continue sucking.
The Flames bought out his contract, and are paying him $733,333 this year and next not to play for them.
I don't know the terms of his contract with Florida, but I understand it's a two-way deal. If he spends the season in the AHL, he'll be getting a lot less money for playing for them than he gets by not playing for us.
I think even SOB himself has to realize how sad that is.
