Why are you surprised that Seto made the team over Jooris and Sven? They're not going to sign a FA and waive him without playing a single game.
They didn't push guys like Seto and Jones off the team, but I feel the vets will have a much shorter leash now because they played so well. So the good camp they had wasn't all for nothing.

No complaints from me. This is an important season for the Flames due to their likelihood of picking top 5 in a draft where there look to be two franchise changers.

I expect Baertschi to be a point per game player in the A while he is down there. Won't be long IMO.

I would have liked Baertschi up but think he could use a month or two on the farm.
He seems to have figured out the physical and defensive side of the game, he looked good in that regard in preseason.
He also showed flashes of being able to play that 200ft game, while also creating offensively, but wasn't able to do it consistently game to game.
I think with the right coaching and a bit of time in the AHL this year he really will put it all together.

I think the issue people have at this point is that Hartley and Treliving kept insisting throughout camp that roster decisions would be based on merit, and that there were spots available for the taking.
What did a player like Setoguchi do that Jooris didn't?
It's the credibility piece for me that's conspicuously missing.

Roster decisions are not locked in on October 5, dude. That's the point. Just because we ran out of pre-season games does not mean that the Treliving and Hartley aren't still evaluating. They still want to see if Setoguchi can do in the future what he used to in the past. He's going to get more time so they can answer that question. Setoguchi isn't in the same place as guys like Jooris and Baertschi are. Those two can still grow and improve in Adirondack while the team continues to evaluate. But Setoguchi is a one-and-done scenario. He goes on waivers and he's done with the club. All his making the opening day roster means is that they aren't willing to give up on him on the basis of an insignificant number of pre-season games.
The fact that the Flames organization does not work the way you (and others) personally want it to does not create a credibility problem.

Watch his last interview. He knows anything can happen and has said he's grown up and needs to only focus on his game, that's it.
Sven had a good camp but was outplayed by Granlund (even in his shortened preseason) and Jooris who also got sent down. I think Sven needs those top line AHL minutes to get his groove on down there. He'll be fine attitude wise I think.

Let's hope so because its getting close to time that he really has to start showing that he hasn't stagnated as a player.

At least people won't be crying when McDavid, Bennett and Monahan are playing on the roster next season.

Don't we still need to cut two or three forwards...I wouldn't be surprised if Seto is on waivers tomorrow.

Shouldn't they be trying to ice the best team every night in order to win? I honestly feel Sven and Jooris make the team better, not Seto or Jones!
This has Burkie written all over it. Smells very similar to what he and Carlye did in TO two years ago.

I'm disappointed but I've seen this story before. Seto will blow goats and be waived or benched before the end of November.
Also, I'd put money on there being at least one major injury sidelining a veteran for most of the season. Glencross and Jones are usually good bets.

Glencross is my pick for whipping boy unless he has a great start. Tends to get disinterested a fair bit and takes lazy, poorly timed penalties.
Either way, as far as Gencross and Setoguchi go. 2.5m and 750k isn't setting the bar too high on my expectations. If either are a ghost at any point after game ten, they'll be moved to the press box or elsewhere.

This.
Treliving at least knows how competitive these kids can be. Move out a few bodies and you've got NHLers. Until then, Adirondack should be a powerhouse this season, which isn't going to hurt development in the least.

I look forward to a top 9 in Adirondack that will look something like this:
Baertschi - Granlund - Poirier
Ferland - Reinhart - Jooris
Agostino - Arnold - Knight (?)
All 9 of those guys can take shifts in the NHL without looking out of place.
People need to remember that the mini Flames are poised to be awesome this year, and playing together - and winning together - will be a great experience for them.

Hanowski, Hathaway or BVB can fit in on that spot.

I'm annoyed about Sven. Not necessarily because it was the wrong decision, but because I thought he could have stolen a spot through exceptional play (much like JG did) instead of simply playing decently through camp. However, looking at the big picture, perhaps coaching and management see specific areas to improve his game further in the AHL, and truly believe that it's best for him. If that's the case, and the upside is an even better Sven down the road...I'm ok with that.

For all those who feel the Flames did the right thing in keeping Setoguchi and sending Jooris down.... please explain to me what advantage there is in having Seto in the lineup rather than Jooris?
Other than improving our chances in the 2015 draft of course...
Are the Flames really a better team with Seto here? I don't think so.
