Who the frick is Enlund? Is this some CP in-joke that materialised overnight??!

I cringed when I saw Backlund's hit on Enstrom. To be fair, so did Backs. He put his hands up as if to say "my bad" and went over to check on the player he had just splattered.

It looked unintentional; Backlund didn't put all his weight into him or anything. He just extended his arm at exactly the time Enstrom was on his edge and in a vulnerable position.

It'll be harsh on Backlund if he's suspended, especially since he looked head-and-shoulders like our best player, but at least then we'd get to see Bennett for a couple of games. Always a silver lining, eh?

Agreed with this. A stupid and dangerous play but nothing came of it thankfully. No suspension. But if Enstrom was carried off on a stretcher, different story.

Just my opinion. I think since there was no injury on the play, Backlund has no history, and it's the preseason, I would be shocked to see a suspension.
Dirty and reckless means suspension.

I think Backs should get a game...no room for that kind of play, Enstrom is lucky not to be severely injured.

One day some of the responsibility will be on the player receiving contact to not put himself in the position that will result in him getting hurt. For example the clowns that stop a few feet from the boards, knowing contact is coming and turning the numbers to the player behind.

One can dream...

That said, the way the game is called now Backs should really have known better. May get a game although I don't think he should.

Since when?

Certainly not in the NHL I've been watching for many years.

Is that the way it is or should be? If it's the former, I agree. If it's the latter, I do not.

Butler cleared waivers on a minimum wage contract. At what point are people going to get that he wasn't some innocent whipping boy?

"Turkey Miley" should be called a Twerkey.

When do we find out the final cuts? Are there a couple of final practices before the opening game?

Dirty and reckless? How can you be both at the same time? Reckless implies one isn't thinking. Dirtiness implies that your actions are premeditated.
I say it was more reckless than dirty, especially in light of his obvious regret after it happened.
The new Nucks should also not be talking about dirtiness too much.

The Jets were really acting tough late in the game against a team that really has 3 goons including the NHL heavyweight champ... Good way to end up with a few black eyes. The flames are going to lose a few this year but not going to lose many team fight cards.

Backlund did it in the wrong way but Enstrom had punishment coming to him for the late elbow to the head of Stajan. The Enstrom hit and the cheap shot by that loser Kane afterwards were almost as bad, the jets have no right to be outraged. Thought it was a bad hit for sure but guys like Clitsom getting tough with Backlund afterwards... Lucky he didn't end up with a broken nose or worse.

Flames added toughness for exactly that situation, stand up for the skill guys, but good restraint shown given it's preseason.

As of wednesday, put the hurt on anybody going after backlund, gaudreau etc, no matter what led up to it.
Why wait though?

This was a meaningless game, it was the perfect time to send a message to the rest of the league, that the Flames can do whatever they want physically.

I'm really disappointed with McGrattans lack of response to librrties taken on Flames players this preseason. Do your job. I've spent the whole summer defending the need for guys like this and they don't do their job when called upon?

It's not even about showing toughness, it's about having your teammates back.

I have been disappointed by the lack of response by the Flames this preseason as well. All of them, not just McGrattan.

I was not impressed that none of the Flames come to the defense of Backlund. Not cool.

I was disappointed Colborne didn't stand up for himself. I'd like to see him be a bit more aggressive since he's added on some muscle.

Maybe Bennett's still around for that nasty factor. They want to see him get involved when emotions run high, because that's how he played in junior. Poirier I'm excited to see too for that reason. It will be nice to have a couple guys willing to fight in our top 6, Monahan and Colborne might be big but they're not mean.
