Totally agree, I don't think the Isles overpaid at all. Their D has been improved significantly, should make a push for the playoffs this year.

They weren't going to be anyway since they dealt their pick, but this really diminishes Buffalo's chances.

Well at least both of these quality D men go to the East and not one of our rivals. I see that as a bullet dodged.

Great day for the Isles. This is exactly what they need to be doing - using extra picks and prospects to solidify the lineup and take the next step. EXACTLY what the Oilers should be doing (of course, the Oilers don't have extra prospects, but that's a different matter).
The Flames are still a couple years away from this phase.

Well since Leddy is still only a 2nd pairing guy, with the potential of a first pairing guy, I think Pokka is a very good asset for the Blackhawks to get in this trade.
Pokka last year was the youngest player and the best player on his SM-Liiga team, and has shown no reason to worry that he won't be an NHLer. Completely reasonable to think he will continue on the same trajectory that Leddy has been on in his short career.

Great day for the Islanders.
With the way their prospect pool is built, and how young their core players are - giving up a couple of seconds and potentially a 3rd alongside a few non-crucial prospects is well worth it to give Tavares and the group a legit shot at doing some damage in the playoffs.
The Islanders will be a good team this year, and for years to come. I can't wait to see the Islanders continually finish above the Rangers in the standings.
...and I'm also very happy Treliving didn't acquire these players. We're not "there" yet.

Damn, does make them look better. But it's the Islanders -- there's always still potential for them to suck.
Also, they've now given up their 1st, 2nd, and (conditionally) 3rd round picks in what's supposed to be the deepest draft in a decade. I know they've been re-building for a while now, but that still is a bit of a gamble.

All in all I like it for the Islanders. Leddy will be there for a while and Boychuk brings some leadership both are top 4 guys.
Dear MacT - these are bold moves.

I disagree, Pokka thinks the game well but his skating is going to make him a liability defensively for sure. Leddy has a chance to be a top 2 guy, I can't see that with Pokka, his skating ability and being able to turrn to defend forwards sucks.

Ah the Bruins are trying to make sure the Islanders don't flip Boychuk to an eastern conference team:
Stephen Whyno @SWhyno
Re: Boychuk deal, conditional third-round pick only goes from #Isles to #Bruins if NY trades D-man during '14-15 season to Eastern team.

Odd. Intelligent. But odd.
I dont think I've ever seen that particular condition before.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 49s49 seconds ago CHI's T.J. Brennan, acquired from NYI, is apparently ticketed for Rockford (AHL) but will need to go on waivers first.
Totally not going to happen, but what WOULD happen if the Islanders claimed Brennan? Would it be like the McAmmond situation in Calgary a few years back when we traded and aquired him in the same season, then weren't eligible to play him?

Thinking about the trades from the other side....
The cap bites both of these teams. Both are Stanley Cup contenders and both gave up important blue line pieces for nothing that will help them this year. I suppose Brennan might get a few games with the Blackhawks but that's doubtful. They both hurt their team this year. I'm sure the other contenders are pleased today.
EDIT: Guess Brennan has to go on waivers... so potentially might not be long for Chicago if anyone really wants him.

Not familiar with Brennan, would the Flames be interested in him?
