Kvitova wasn't at the Wimbledon level but she still played very well. Genie simply had a couple loose service games and got no traction until the end on Kvitova's serve.

Milos won his opening round match at the Rakuten Open in Japan. His half of the draw has opened up with Grannollers taking out David Ferrer and he has a very good chance to augment his chances of appearing in London with a deep run.

Wawrinka and Tsonga have also been upset early in the Japan tourney.

Roanic should have a pretty good shot at London, no?

He needs to have a good finish to the season in Asia and it wouldn't hurt if guys like Ferrer and Berdych stumble down the stretch. Currently, positions 7 through 10 are only separated by 130 points as follows:

7. Ferrer - 3,535
8. Berdych - 3,510
9. Raonic - 3,440
10. Murrray - 3,405

No surprise that Joker advanced past Vasek (6-3, 7-5). I didn't see the match, but based on the scores, it clearly wasn't a romp.

Pospisil actually had a 5-3 lead in the second set with a set point to push it to a third, but it just wasn't meant to be.

That's disappointing to hear that Vasek wasn't able to force a 3rd set. I guess that is what separates the good players from the great players, the mental edge and focus to elevate your game when it is needed most.

Good news for Genie Bouchard! She's qualified for the WTA Finals. It's the first time for a Canadian since 1989.

Milos into the quarters in Japan after dispatching Melzer 6-4 6-3. Melzer provided a strong test for Milos especially in the first set (nice break of serve by Raonic for the first set win). He next faces Istomin and has a very good chance of reaching the final for a 3rd consecutive year.

Milos reaches the semi-final in Japan by defeating Istomin 7-6 6-3. He played well, but in my opinion was in better form against Melzer. With the win, he passes Ferrer and is in the 8th and final qualification spot for London. Next up is Gilles Simon in the semi-final and if he wins that match, he'll likely face Nishikori in the final.

It's the ATP Final event. It's a decent chunk of change. I think prize money is five or six million.

Hmm, hope he doesn't leave himself fatigued for Paris. That final tourney might determine if he gets in or not.

Making the final of Japan again helps... and against Nishikori again. Those two just can't get away from each other right now.

Here is the live ATP Race To London Standings

http://live-tennis.eu/race

There are two finals tonight.
Beijing: Djokovic vs Berdych
Tokyo: Raonic vs Nishikori

Whoever wins these matches will get an additional 200 points. So we're cheering for Djokovic (he helped Raonic yesterday by beating Murray)
