Dreger should just say "pass" when someone asked him about Calgary. He can't be objective and comes across as uninformed.

So let me get this straight . TSN was discussing the Calgary Flames !
wth did any of you expect some actual knowledgeable insight from them LOL.
Most of those idiots still think Burkie is our GM , and T.O. is the model franchise in the NHL.
The lack of insight comes from spending little to no time paying any attention to the product on the ice in Calgary , or the efforts made here to build a team .

That said I'm expecting an exciting, hard working team that will lose a lot of close games (like last year) , but will continue on building a franchise that has a bright future in the proper way .

Good on Burke and Treliving for not being content like the Oilers in being a basement team just because they are in a young rebuild. Dreger is sub zero on the hockey IQ scale.

Too many of these talking heads were so quick to jump on the Oiler bandwagon 15 years ago when the rebuild started and declared the tank method "the way to go" so passionately that the seem to feel the need to go down with the ship, too embarrassed to admit maybe they were wrong,

As a result, they keep touting the Oilers as ready to make the leap and talk about how "confusing" rebuild methods that aren't a total tank job are in hopes that maybe something will change and that if they keep saying it maybe they won't have to eat crow after 27 years of rebuild up north

Just admit that a complete tank job might not be the only way and get on with it.

I dunno. It sure didn't look like they tried all that hard to improve the team this offseason.

It seems they are pretty content to ride this season out at the bottom of the pile and see what happens.

They are probably top ten in revenue and have the lowest payroll in the league. They could have dropped a big overpay on a good player, but they chose Engelland.

Noticed you said "this season"... and not the next eight.

I think part of what makes "generational" talents "generational" is the will to win.

I think 'generational' changes your teams entire attitude.

Guys like Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Sidney Crosby, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Lebron James absolutely HATE to lose. That is why they are 'generational' talents.

IF and I still think it is a BIG IF, Mcdavid and/or Eichel earn a spot in that sentence above, it will single handily fix any culture issues. That is what separates the good from the elite or 'generational' talents.

May not win every championship but will be in the conversation in 2 years and every year for the next 15.

I take exception to the thread title. Does Dreger being confused qualify as news?

Well if I remember correctly they did try and deal for Ribero at the draft (to secure assets on top I imagine). So to say Burke and Treliving made no effort to acquire impact players if the off-season is likely wrong.

When it comes down to it, I think Treliving and Burke are a bit smarter than Dreger. Heck those 2 combined may be smarter than half the managements' in the league.

It still fun to be a Flames fan.

You're confused about the direction Dreger? Let me enlighten you:

The management and coaches are instilling a winning attitude and atmosphere around the team well before they actually have the pieces to do it, so that when they finally do, they won't require to do the impossible task of turning a bunch of expectant losers into winners that actually know how to play a full and responsible game, because these kids will already be there. They're signing players to create healthy competition within the organization, because you don't get better with a country club atmosphere around your team. They're drafting where they draft, and giving those prospects the best opportunities to reach their potentials. Note - Your prospects don't have to be 1st overalls to become cornerstones of your team. Don't agree? Brodie and Gaudreau say hello from the 4th round. They're making every roster player earn their place there, because they're not going to ice a team to just coast for 82 games, as that would be totally unprofessional (right?). Most of all - they're doing exactly what the Oilers AREN'T. Which is just fine in my books, cause I don't want us to become anything like that team.

So sit down and stfu, you ignorant tool.

Agree. It's like they don't realize that the vast majority of fans would love to have actual hockey analysis done by hockey analysts.

I've always felt that the TSN guys never actually watched Flames games, based on their opinions and comments about the team. I wouldn't sweat it too much, it's part of the territory of being a small market western team.

If Calgary gets Noah Hanifin - an Alex Pietrangelo type - the rebuild will be drastically fast-tracked.
