found this on another board, nice clip of his 2nd ast tonight:
He even waits and waits until the very last second to spin and dodge the hit to make the jets player look silly. Unbelievable. He is definitely one of the shiftiest players I have ever seen.

Hiller was lights out the other night in his 28 save shutout behind a pretty average d corps. I get biases towards certain players but blindly discounting the actions of their direct competition is crazy.
Both Ramo and Hiller are poised to BOTH provide stellar goaltending this season.
I don't believe either will be labeled as a back up this year. Just 1a and 1a. They're going to push each other hard . and the Flames will benefit greatly.
Although I did say in this very thread that Hiller will be #1. Its a tight competition, but Hillers allowed less goals.
I think both goalies will play equally the whole season. Hartley might do the let the guy play while he's hot type of thing. There won't be #1 goalie this season, it is going to be 1A and 1B. Both goalies are playing well in the pre-season and it should foolish to say one is ahead of the others.
If we're being intellectually honest here (barf), I just don't see how management could send JG to Addy. Both Burke and Treliving have said you don't go into a season expecting failure, you try to ice the best team you have and let the chips fall. If they truly believe that there is no tangible reason JG starts in the AHL. He has all-world skill and is an offensive catalyst every time he touches the puck. There is no way this team is better with Setoguchi or Jones on the roster ahead of Gaudreau. Bennett has been solid as well but another year in junior/WJC's to add some strength would serve him best. I wouldn't even be upset if Baertschi starts the the season on the farm. He looks good (better than last year) but still isn't quite at the level I had hoped. But Johnny, my god, this guy is an elite talent. Going to Addy would serve no purpose. He's shown he has the ability to avoid big checks, and doesn't shy away from board-play. He's more than ready.
And goaltending looks like it could be a real strength this year. Both have looked excellent. Who knows, if Johnny can replace Cammy's offense, Monahan avoids the sophomore slump, and the goaltending is solid, this might not be a team in the running for McDavid.

Fixed. Gaudreau is the saviour.

I feel like when Baertschi was rushed to the big league, and he made mistakes, he just entered a state where he was afraid to do anything. And he can't get out of it. Poor guy. However, he needs to get his stuff together.

It's awesome how he makes Matthew Perrault (85) miss the hit at the last second, skates towards the middle to draw Trouba in tight, then dishes the pass to Jooris. Trouba didn't stand a chance.

One of the most beautiful, creative and unexpected plays from along the boards resulting in a goal that I've ever seen. No exaggeration. 0.1% of players would have the brains, speed and hands to do that when being converged on by two players.
JG is in Kane, Datsyuk etc echelon of elite skill.
Yup, there is actually one name that JG really reminds me of, but I'd be embarrassed to say it... we'll see I guess. This kid is unreal.
(I think Kariya, Datsyuk as well... but then again, I thought a lot of Sergei Varlamov too so we'll see...)

Johnny seems to play like Byron and Russell. He plays a lot bigger than he is physically.
I wonder if they gave him some advice this summer.
Burke did say small guys are fine on a team when you surrounded them with some beef. Seems Treliving and Burke seem to be on the same page. The height ratios among players seem equal .

I doubt it. To me Gaudreau looks like he is playing the same way as he has always played. He has ALWAYS played a lot bigger than his size, and by this I mean that he has never shied away from the slot, the boards, or the front of the net.
What was most impressive to me from last night (I just started work—its 8 AM here in Norway) was of course the incredible play on the second assist. But what was equally noteworthy was that on the other two goals—Monahan's first, and then Jooris's second—is that Gaudreau was jumping in front of the net on each shot to provide a screen or to pick up the rebound.

Agreed here, I think this is what seperates JG from a guy like Hemsky (which dont get me wrong, Hemsky has had a great career, but I think what limits a guy like Hemsky might not apply to JG...maybe).... I do think I see a lot of Kariya in his prime, as well as the afermentioned un-named. (sorry not to harp on this un-named thing)

I get what your saying here.
The size of his competition is much bigger now. He is not playing against just college players now tho. Its impressive because he is going against fully matured men .

It's okay to say it. It's not like you have been the first to suggest this. People have been drawing comparisons between Gaudreau and Gretzky for two years now.
