You over estimate yourself, dammage79.
How so? If I am wrong, then I am over estimating the posts I am reading.

And I am saying that eliminating the thread will not change the culture here! My god, for all the flak I get about not reading this or sticking my fingers iny ears, other people sure do have the same problem.

The culture you speak of is brought in from elsewhere. Not incubated here. You want to change the culture you need to address it on a one one one basis and with those responsible. Not with a blanket.

Ahh yes, the problem supposedly lies elsewhere, so the mods were stupid to delete your T&A.

Clearly you think that the thread itself was not part of the problem, which is a remarkably self-serving position to take. And I suspect that once the mods update the TOS, they will comment to individuals on a one on one basis as needed. But dumping that thread (and a couple others) was an appropriate first step.

Ugh, its not about the material in question. And yes, those people were not born on cp, so it does come from elsewhere.

But please, carry on like all I've ever said was akin to a hissy fit that the pretty lady pictures are gone. Which if you look for and read my posts on the topic had zero to do with the material. Well maybe one somewhere initially but not in the vein you're attempting to make it out to be.

Censorship? I guess if a person believes they have the absolute right to post (and look at) pictures of women in their underwear on on a website they don't own, they would feel like a victim of censorship.

But that's pretty silly. Nobody could possibly believe that, but you are making it sound like you do.

Why is it a big deal that the thread was deleted instead of locked?

Honest question.

And again to that end - we are doing more than just removing the thread, including:
- Updating the forum rules to bring better clarity on the site's positions on these issues. These rules are being drafted as we speak
- This will in turn arm the moderation team to more effectively deal with problem posters one on one
- We are also adding to the moderation team. We are in contact with multiple candidates on this front

So some other stuff is happening. And we've said that already.

Effective and positive steps. And not that it matters as I am just one out of a thousand or so, but the proper ones IMO. From the beginning I was aware and made no mention in a negative manner about that. And to be fair, I never really brought them up in a positive manner today either and I should have, so for all squabbling we've all done today, I apologize for not recognizing the appropriate steps you guys are actually taking.

Although I suspect it matters little that I say this after all that.

Maybe we could take a poll.

Personally, I thought that thread was at best pretty base, and at worst misogynist. I think the only time I had entered it was becuase the title was confusing.

Anyway, the threads and posts don't only reflect on the posters but the owner(s) of the site, the moderators, and any advertisers too, if they allow such things to go on. Times are changing, and I agree with the principal of removing that and threads like it. It doesn't need to be a majority of people on this site upset about a thread or post for it to be considered offensive.

The moderation team has been pretty good, although I wish my complaints about the use of "######" and "hope they get AIDS/cancer" as insults are largely ignored.

Wow, you miss a few months and come back and all h3ll breaks lose.

It comes down to nothing more or less than free market, find an altrnate product or go to a different vendor to find that product.

Its just too bad because FLAMES talk was the reason I joined but other than PGT writeups, rumors about the arena and breaking news I havent even opened that sub forum in years. Most of the talk in that sub forum is of a mind-numbing nature (as most sports forums are).

I will stick around for local Calgary talk but wont bother with anything else because for any reason (legit or not depending on who deciding) it could be removed.

Yeah. I don't neccesarily disagree with the removal of the thread, but I am definitely changing my posting style. Anything even borderline controversial, cynical or disagreeable to the masses I am not even going to bother with anymore. It's going to be 100% PG from me going forward. My new philosophy on posting here, is don't post anything that would offend or upset a 10 year old, or you might get banned.

It's kinda weird. Normally online, you can be a little more unfiltered than you are IRL. On this site however, I am the General Audiences version of myself.

To be fair the whole world is going that way. Can't say anything that could possibly offend any person that may or may not be included in your conversation or the topic at hand.

So did you guys get a sneak peek at the the new forum guidelines or is this just completely baseless speculation?

I don't even get what's so hard about it to be perfectly honest (not directed at you). If you're going to make a comment that demeans and dehumanizes someone solely on genetic factors that are beyond their control, maybe hold off. If you're going to insult someone who doesn't belong to the aforementioned groups by saying they're like said group, you are indirectly demeaning said group. And finally, no one cares what gives you a boner. It's not all that difficult.

So it has been a couple of years since we nuked the "you love you lose" thread. Sure goes to show threads like that add nothing to CP since it doesn't matter one iota that it's gone. I can't imagine the reaction if somebody tried to start a thread with bikini-clad women in it today. They'd look like an absolute idiot. Funny how fast things change.
