I missed it though, which of the girls ended up voting with the boys?

I totally just saw this thread title hovering there in one of the menus as the 'last posted to thread' and I just came here to talk about how I've been to San Juan del Sur, which Wikipedia tells me was also the host location of Survivor: Nicaragua and Survivor: Redemption Island.
Holy crap San Juan del Sur is freaking beautiful. I don't know if I've ever been to a nicer beach town in my life. Brilliant rum, gorgeous beach, phenomenally nice people. I hope (but doubt) that it's as nice today as it was back then. I think you all should go.
I have nothing of actual value to contribute to this thread, however.

Looks like we're really great at drafting. Last person picked for both rounds was first out. Game is easy, right?

Good opening episode. I think 90 minutes was the perfect length... basically 30 minutes for introductions and then straight into the survivor standard episode.
Stock Up:
Natalie (I think losing her twinnie is a positive for her + already has an alliance + on winning tribe)
Rocker (Was a huge asset in the challange + was on the right side of the vote)
Jeremy (Big challange asset + looks to be in the leadership position of an alliance + has the whole firefighter bond thing).
Keith (Firefighter bond thing + has a favor in his back pocket)
Stock Down:
Drew (Got the dunce edit... not a good sign)
Wes (got Rocker concerned about him and despite having his dad spend time with a tribemate we saw no interaction between him and Val)
Val (Exiled, got useless clue , saw no interaction between her and Wes, wrong side of vote)
Jon (got a compelling personal story edit but no game story edit... sign of early boot?)

I liked the episode. I found it odd that Josh "threw" his vote (at least that's what it looks like) by voting for Baylor when he knew it was between two other folks.
I also like what I see out of Jeremy.

Val is playing way too hard, way too early.
Dropping hints she found a clue that would make her fine 'whatever the outcome' of the vote, then reaching into her bag when probst says last call on idols.
She's made herself a target in my opinion when she likely had some favour.

I couldn't understand why she was playing it that way. Those are the kind of moves you make as a last ditch effort when you think you're going home. Was she feeling like a target?

I wish they'd stop showing them actually finding the idols on occasion, just to shock the viewer even more at tribal. It would be crazy for someone to pull out an idol when even we don't know they have it. I know that would make the pre-tribal edit rather impossible, but it would be mindblowing.

Did Val actually find it? I know that the fellow from the Blue tribe found that one (he doesn't know what he's found yet) but I don't recall them showing Val finding the Idol, just looking for it, turning over rocks, etc. Or did I miss that part?

Good episode, the twin sisters weren't as annoying as expected, I think Nadiya got the boot just because who she was, not because she lost the challenge or did anything stupid. I guess someone had to go, and nobody really stood out in a bad way. Rocker was pretty quiet last night, but looks like he loses his cool sooner or later in the preview clips at the end of the show.

I actually thought that was smart given the circumstances.
Gotta look at it from her perspective... there was only two possible outcomes she was on the right side of the vote and a guy was going home or she was on the wrong side and a gal was going home. If she's on the right side then no worries, she's all good, but what if she's on the wrong side? what if it was a gal going home? If a woman is going who is it going to be? If I'm Val the thought running through my head is..."I just lost a reward challange for the tribe, I missed out on the first days of relationship building, I spent time fraternising with "the enemy" at exile", I'm the easiest person to boot out".
When you look at it that way an idol bluff is a perfectly logical play to make.

Good post, Parallex.
I guess I thought more the reaching for a hidden idol was too much, as it would be too late to influence the votes anyway and seemed to garner substantial reaction from her tribemates.

I'd totally bluff reach for the idol, I'd do it slowly and take my time, and see if I could do a vote count alliance side because none of these people play poker very well.
If you see a majority of the people looking on with horror you can look at the other side and say loudly, your next your out numbered and then cut a belch and toss your fire like a spear.

Strong opener, strong cast. Going to be a good season.
Does that one kid not look exactly like Quasimodo?

Yeah, that was pretty stupid. Then to give up the fishing gear to get it back. Also, impressive Immunity challenge

Rocker being Rocker. You knew he'd lose it eventually, looks like next week he heats up a bit.
