This whole 'Bennett has been injured twice, send him back' garbage is so over-blown it isn't funny.
For the record, I think he should go back to junior, but the injury stuff is pure fiction.
He has been arguably the best forward in camp - certainly one of them. He deserves to have has tryout continue. And he deserves to get some regular season games in.

He's shown he's got a ton of skill and a serious motor, he's shown he's going to be a major piece going forward. However, he's also taken a "knock" or a "bump" a couple times already. I don't believe that the Flames are going to keep him up, why not just keep him out at this point and send him down. Based on that belief that they're most likely sending him down anyway, I don't see the point ... he's not quite physically ready yet, and that's ok.
|
Its also about teaching. Everyone knows its likely he isn't going to stay up, but he still needs to learn how to adjust to the NHL.
These last 2 pre-season games he is likely to face his toughest competition to date and will be an invaluable learning experience for him to take back to junior.
Also without knowing the severity or details of the injuries he has suffered thus far, a lot of message board doctors out there are making assumptions about his health that are most likely wrong.

It's the last home game of the pre season... give all the exciting young players some time and give the fans a glimpse into the bright future of the Flames.
Also, if Bennett wasn't fully cleared to play by the training staff, he wouldn't be playing.

Biron.....wasn't his last kick at the can letting in that Tomas Hertl goal? I bet Bennett would have stopped that one.

Bob McKenzie has no real information, but he was concern with how quiet the Flames have been about the Bennett injuries. Bob said he heard that Bennett has been to multiple doctors, which he believed meant the Flames didn't like what they heard from the first doctor and was hoping for better news from another one.
A lot of guessing on his part, but a little worrisome. I just have a bad feeling it's some chronic injury that requires surgery to fix, resulting in missing a few months. Or he could be fine in a week, who knows.

My guess is Bennett gets sent back to the OHL. They don't want to rush the kid and are going to let him know it is for his best interest he is not going to the NHL this season.
He is super talented though but i think they will want him to bulk up a bit.

Keeping Bennett up will serve no purpose. Let's continue the rebuild.
Benett is an elite player who needs more time to develop and dominate. Can't wait to see the highlight reals in the juniors.

Perhaps part of the reason he is still with the club is access to the medical staff?

Yeah, it was Martin Biron who said that. It was probably that joker LeBrun who wrote it on the teleprompter.

I'm just surprised we haven't heard anything yet. Hartley looked worried/queasy when asked about it on the weekend. I think he wanted Bennett is the lineup opening night. I just hope it's nothing serious.

Great attitude from the kid throughout this recovery
Sam Bennett @SBennett93
Best pain relief out there? Watching my @NHLFlames win in OT #CHIvsCGY #GoFlames #Jonas
Also it was mentioned during the flames v hawks broadcast last night,
Hartley told the media that bennett would have made the team were he not injured.
This is probably a damned good show of confidence for sam, let's him know that he can't sweat the fact that he'll miss world juniors, because he wouldn't have gone anyhow as he'd of been up with the big club. tells him he's an nhler now and needs to rehab his injury and be ready for his future flames career.

Technically, the Flames may have still released him to play in the WJC. If we were far down the standings of course...
I don't think it happens often that an NHL team releases a WJC eligible player, but it does happen occasionally (unless I am way out to lunch, which also happens occasionally).

While he said he would have started he still would have had to have done the Monahan and proved he belonged in the first 9 games. I hope we don't give him a 9 game showing in Feb, let him go down and get his feet wet again in a league he will be able to slot in quite nicely during midseason after an injury. The pace of the NHL by Feb is intense it would be interesting to see if he could slot in if the Flames do indeed give him a look later on this year.

I know it is pretty much a given with his tweet, but he had successful shoulder surgery in Cleveland.
Rest and recoup and then he will be headed back to Calgary for rehab.

He may have gotten his 9 games but I don't think Hartley would have meant for the season. He has skill to burn but if your body isn't ready, it isn't ready and his body wasn't ready. His style of game needs a good 10 lbs more and maybe 20+ so he can dominate at the NHL level.
I just don't want to see us go all Edmonton and push the new shiny toy into the league before he's ready.

This.
We have enough young talent to give opportunities to this year and there is no reason we need to rush Bennett, give him a look if it makes sense at the time otherwise I would be more than happy to let him start building in Feb towards a strong off-season where he can pack on pounds and core-strength. I look at guys like Monahan and Colborne and can see a total change in their balance on the ice, this is what Bennett needs to do this off-season.
