And if Mueller really was that good, he wouldn't be on waivers. They'd make space. Ultimately, you're just trading one unknown for another with this suggestion.

Thanks, I didn't know about the ECHL rule.
There is a difference between someone saying Mueller is "that good" vs better than Setoguchi.
Mueller is a good player with concussion history, Setoguchi played well with an all star and lacks work ethic. Would love to be proved wrong by him though.

He's on waivers. Do we really want more fringe players?

Probably not but at this point any right-shooting D-man sparks my curiosity. I doubt Potter would have been given a shot at the team if he was another lefty.

What is this, the third time Mueller as a Flame could be a realistic possibility?
I can't wait to see what the rookies can do, but I would also love having the option to give Mueller a shot here too. Mueller and Setoguchi trying to re-establish themselves in the NHL paired with a great goalie battle and the kids pushing EVERY player on this team for a spot sounds great! Mueller sounds like a great fit for what we're doing here.

No.
Every year Calgary has some dumb reclamation project that never turns out. We already have one in Setoguchi and last year's still hanging around (D. Jones). They need to give it up and give some of their own talent a chance.

To be fair some of them did work out.
Kris Russel being a great example but other vets they brought in (e.g. Owen Nolan) did well too.
But by no means am I arguing for them to claim Mueller.

I don't think David Jones was a reclaimation project, he just who we had to take back to get rid of Tanguay because Tanguay was signed to a crazy long deal that started wanted to jump ship 1 year in.

Draft Pick

No need to pick up anyone on this list.
I'd rather have Diaz signed to a contract in the next coming days than pick up someone like Blacker. Diaz, from what I've seen, has had a great camp and would be a solid add on D.
Mueller? It seems as though his name pops up in discussion every year on how we should sign him to a contract, or pick him up if he's waived, ect. Hasn't happened yet, and won't happen. Our prospects have been stepping up to the plate this camp, and if anything they deserve a crack at opening night roster.

I'm an Ice Caps season ticket holder so I've seen plenty of Klingberg. He's fast as hell, but dumb as rocks and he's got hands like feet. He's good for one jaw dropping end to end rush every three games or so, but that's about it.
No thanks.

It doesn't bother me that D. Jones is on the team, it just bothers me if he's taking a spot on the ice without earning it. But Glencross bothers me just the same way.
If D. Jones, Mueller and Setoguchi are in the press box I'm not bothered one bit. We have the cap room for a hail mary, and we would be a much better team if any or all of those 3 examples panned out. If not, as a fan I have lost nothing.

He was drafted by Burke in Toronto then traded by Nonis. That's all I got.

He sounds a lot like a mini-Phaneuf to me. Everything I've read about him attributes a great amount of strength in his physical and offensive game. He hits hard, shoots hard, and is capable of skating well enough to make the NHL.
That said, he's also got the Phaneuf issues too. He has brain farts in his own end. It sounds like the best he'll ever be is passable in that area. His points didn't really translate to the AHL/NHL level until last year and Ducks fans seemed to be claiming his preseason wasn't that good.
Not sure the Flames would need him.

He sounds like a "Burke" player for sure.
I guess it will come down to Diaz vs Blacker; wouldn't hurt to add a more physical player with offensive skills to the lineup, even as a 7th D.

So he played 53 games for the Wild last year, signed with the Blues, and then gets picked up on Waivers by the Wild again....interesting.
