lots of young skilled talent coming up though (Forsberg, Jarnkrok for example). I think highly of Trotz, but a change behind the bench was overdue and more offensive coach like Laviolette will be good for them IMO.

I agree that the preds actually look better then last year. Even the sabres and panthers look like they have younger players that can make a step and become better. I think a full season of Luongo will help the panthers out and the sabres got a couple of good guys in the off season. The sens are nowhere near as bad as some are making them out to be. They still have one of the best defensemen in the league and decent goaltending and their forwards aren't that bad. Carolina shouldn't be that bad but I see them being bad. The Flames have the worst team on paper in the league IMO

Teams under Lavilolette tend to over achieve in year one I think te Preds are battling on the bubble with the likes of the Nucks, Sharks, etc. I see a 8th-10th finish for them.

It is fun watching the media adjust to the Oilers reality. In past years they were always pencilled in for big improvement. People are starting to come around, but a lot are still hesitant to stay they will suck. They just say they have no idea what is going to happen.

I think Carolina, Buffalo, Edmonton and Florida are the early favourites for the Noah McEichel sweepstakes

Having watched this preseason and understanding mixed rosters etc, they do appear to be a team that will work hard, look good, generate chances, and ...

NOT SCORE

So yeah I'm starting to see the tough season ahead.

Exactly ^ it's the lack of goal scoring ability that's going to kill us. Can already see it. We're averaging something like 1.50 goals per game through 6 or 7 games so far? In games that mean nothing? Hockey gods help us..

It'll be tough to score and by the looks of it, our D isn't all that great either. Our goaltending has looked better but that's in pre season games against not the best line ups in no pressure situations. I do think we look like a tougher team to play against and will probably cause a lot of injuries throughout the league but unless a couple players really surprise us then we're really in for a tough (but fun to watch) season.

For all the deserved hating on edmonton they at least have a few players try can expect to flirt with 30+ goals.

Their D and goaltending is highly questionable right now.

Florida has equal if not better goaltending than us and a better forward group. Their D could be better but have some nice pieces. They also play in the weak east

Carolina is looking like a team that could tank hard but still have better forwards than we do.

On paper we are the worst roster in the league. I think we really take a beating this year in the standings

Worse than Buffalo? I don't think so, not even close.

The Flames are going to lose more games than they win and miss the playoffs this season. It's going to happen end of story. If that nets them Connor McDavid then I consider the season a success as it would be a franchise turning point.

The addition of Georges and Gionta make that team better then add in Moulson and even a full season of Stewart or their younger players taking a step forward (they have a lot of good young players).

I don't think the sabres will be as bad as most think.

Just look at the rosters and depth charts. There's no way flames aren't one of the the three worst teams on paper.

Sorry but it's not against the code of being a fan to still be able to reasonably asess these things. And to win the cup you need elite talent. This season is just building the foundation.

Every year they simulate the season and every year it is somehow a story... EA simulations are at the top of the "who cares" category for me.

In the East, don't overestimate the Florida Panthers. Just look at that roster... *shudders*

Plus with the draft lottery changes, who knows?

Moulson
Gionta
Hodgson
Ennis
Stewart

are better than

Hudler
Glencross
Backlund
Monahan
Stajan

They're more productive offensively, and no worse defensively.

Buffalo also has more forwards in the age group where they can be expected to significantly improve (Hodgson, Ennis, Grigorenko, Girgensons) than the Flames do (Backlund, Monahan).

Not true! Just trade backlund and a 3rd for Giroux then Monahan and Giordano for Kessel and Phanuef and if you toss in a 2nd then you can get Riemer as a backup in case Hiller stuggles in the play offs but thats ok becuase you will win the Stnley Cup everytime! And If you want the 1st overall pick trade Gaudreau and Klimchuck for it
