I keep changing my mind. Based on current injuries, some combination of Gaudreau, Baertschi or Ferland.

Baertschi and Jooris IMO.
Baertschi gets the extra LW spot, and Jooris wins a 4th line/13th forward role as a reward for a good camp.
Gaudreau, Granlund, and Ferland start as the first line in Addy. Bennett and Klimchuk get sent back to junior and are linemates at the WJC.

Baertschi, Ferland and Granlund.
Baertschi because he seems to have the right attitude this time around.
Ferland because he's making some noise and is doing all the right things
Granlund because just 'cuz.
I still think/hope Gaudreau starts in Addy, but obviously I won't be sad if he doesn't and starts in Calgary.

Sven and Johnny now for me. Ferland was second in my mind last time after Sven, but I don't see how Johnny doesn't at least start the season here, and then take stock of his game after 15 games or so. In the end, Baertschi and Johnny deserve to start the season on the big club. Hopefully meritocracy actually determines it.

Had to go with Sven, he seems much more motivated and willing to work hard this year. You'd have to think management is impressed with the change and is willing to reward him for it. We'll see though, I wouldn't be surprised if he was sent down either

Listening to Treliving the other day on the Fan he said the No 1 concern for this season that keeps him up at night is 'how is this team going to score goals?'
With that said, I think Gaudreau starts with the big club out of the gate this season. He just brings too much offense and creativity to the table. Add that to the fact I think the NHL is the best place for him to hone his amazing skill set, and I just think Johnny makes the team.

I'd like to see Baertschi and Gaudreau start over Setoguchi and D Jones.
But this whole "meritocracy" thing is BS and Setoguchi and D Jones will both be on the opening night roster.

In Jones' case it's all about four-millionocracy.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jooris is getting a lot more consideration for a RW spot than people seem to think. He isn't one of the marquis guys but he has been very impressive. I'll admit he may not have the potential of JG, Sven or Sam but he is a righty and the competition is a little thinner for what he brings.

Never been one to buy into this, Jones is going to get his money no matter what but why would ownership rather keep him over better players.
McDavid?
Ship him, he's terrible. An epic Feaster mistake.

Problem is though, he's right. I don't think the so-called 'meritocracy' extends as far as sending Jones down. Or Seto, for that matter. These guys are veterans, and they will be given every reason to stay with the big club, as they always are. In these cases, contracts and reputation DO weigh into personnel decisions.
Otherwise, Seto or Jones would be Addy-bound and then atleast two of Gaudreau / Ferland / Baertschi would be permanently up. But you simply won't see that happen.

My guess is they are keeping Jones to stay above the lower cap limit.
