I wouldn't say that necessarily. He's been on my radar since the beginning of camp and had been pretty solid before last night. He definitely wouldn't have had as many votes, but he's always been in the mix. Plus, he's one of the few guys that has some significant size to him. He had an advantage from that alone.

He has been on the radar for me too. Last nights performance obviously did not hurt him.

Knowing management and their love for size and truculence, he is a good bet to make the team. I love Bennett Gaudreau and Sven too, but my vote is not just my opinion on the player, its my opinion on management too. Otherwise I would pick Gaudreau.

I'm going to say Bennett gets his 9 games. I think CP is going to explode when no other youngsters make it.

My feeling up front is, assuming Granlund remains inured and makes that choice easier.

Glencross - Backlund - Hudler
? - Monahan - Raymond
? - Stajan - Colborne
? - Bouma - McGrattan
Bollig - Setoguchi

I think in contention for the three open spots, in order.

Gaudreau
Ferland
Baertschi
Byron
Bennett
Jones

Obviously the lines could juggle around based on who makes it.

I'm leaning towards both Ferland & Bennett for opening night, but I think Baertschi and Gaudreau will both be there by mid October some how.

I really believe waiving Jones is not that big of a deal, the fact is he is not one of our top 9 or 10 wingers. In the minors isn't his cap hit still like $3.2M under the new CBA? And if he does get claimed whats the worst thing that could happen, they have to send Potter down and sign Diaz for $3M / 1Y, still better than having Jones up, while a much more effective Ferland doesn't get the chance to prove himself.

It's going to be Granlund. The most consistent forward throughout camp. I don't think the concussion symptoms (At least from what Trelving said today hinting that all injuries to players aren't mking lose any sleep at night or something like that) will keep him out much longer and will hopefully suit up the last game against Winnipeg.

Agree with PMM - I think Granlund was the guy that would have made it until he got injured. Toss up between Ferland and Gaudreau at the moment.

Is Gadreau more ready to play regular top 6 minutes in the NHL, or is Ferland closer to playing third line minutes in the NHL? I am not sure, but I am picking Ferland. I have said this 2 years ago - if Ferland ever makes it to the NHL, he will be a huge fan favorite. I think he is on the cusp now.

Tough call. I would say Ferland but remember when Brodie did well and got sent down? Then again, Hartley is calling him Ferly...

At the end of last year I thought Granlund had a good solid chance

I will guess that Bennett gets up to 9 games, then Gaudreau spends up to a couple of months down but comes up thereafter

For the poll I haven't voted but if at least a start up counts, I would guess Bennett

Ferland and Gaudreau have the best shot with Granlund being injured.

Sven has been alright, but not noticeably better than any of the three above. Don't see why he would make it in ahead of them.

Voted Baertschi but I also think Gaudreau will make the team as well.

^ may depend on coaching staff perspective of play away from the puck. If Baertschi learned enough in Abby maybe he is the guy to get a look

Gaudreau will dazzle this week methinks, and opinions will shift once again.

I think the voting has narrowed down the best chances for these players. Anyone or more of them could make it.

Baertschi - has been steady and looks solid, not outstanding yet though

Ferland - I really like this player but has he proved enough over the long term

Gaudreau - fun to watch plus he's the best player we have at gaining the zone, I voted for him

Granlund - deserves a spot but do we have room?

Bennett - maybe, great raw talent but why take a chance with him being so young

Maybe we should do a poll for the defencemen too. There is definitely a spot open for one of them.

Team Meritocracy would be a good way to guarantee the Flames would be able to draft McDavid or Eichel and also a way to challenge the Capitals old record for ineptness.
