Who's tougher, the hobos or the leprechauns? I've always fancied my chances against a hobo, but the leprechaun is an unknown quantity - an experienced brawler like yourself could maybe give out some tips and advice.
As far as standing on the bus goes, my mother always told me I better give up my seat for gals and the elderly, or I'd go to Hell and burn, and she'd not lift a finger to get me out. Who should I disappoint, my mother or the suffragettes? Can you people not come to some kind of consensus? Seriously.

The weird thing to me is that you dont seem to have rules for such things. In Russia if your bag takes a seat, you have to buy a separate ticket for it. Although I have only seen it a couple of times in my life, you can buy two tickets and occupy two seats - one for you and another one for your bag. If you only have one ticket, driver or ticketman can order you to remove the bag from the seat - although I have never seen it happened because noone does it at the first place. There's no grey area, no etiquette or something. It is pretty straightforward, you either paid for your bag or not. Kinda surprise you do not have simple and effective rules for that.

Guy was an ass for sure, but one day someone is literally going to be killed over this social media shaming. It's just a matter of time.
Agreed, I think it can actually pretty dangerous thing. Not much doubt this guy was a ######bag but there is something really unsettling about anonymous people on the internet ganging up to be judge and jury on things. If laws were broken its up to the police and courts to handle it. You never know when some weirdo online is going to take this stuff too far. Even if it doesn't get physically violent, public shaming can be pretty damaging given how much of a person's reputation now reside in online profiles of different sorts. Not defending the guy in this case, but still doesn't seem right that people take to the web for justice. Most people online will make up their minds on something without clear facts, and come out with emotional responses that are far greater than what they would do in real life.

I'm old school. I"ll give my seat up on the bus for just about anybody. I can stand. If I had witnessed that I wouldn't have threatened him. I would have just took his hat and stomped it....go from there.
Even before the rise of keyboard warriors, I found it infinitely easier just to take up the far seat and put my bag on my lap in order to avoid being disturbed. That way, you don't have to learn whether the person approaching your seat is a jackass or not. It really is a matter of convenience to get out of the way so I can take my damn bus nap.
If a guy puts his bag on the inside of a seat of a crowded bus, he's just asking for a confrontation, polite or not. And guess what? He got what he asked for.
There are usually bags on seats when I travel, but when seats fill up, you move your bag. You shouldn't even have to be asked. The seats are for passengers, they aren't storage space.
There have been many occasions over the years where I've seen someone leave their bags on seats at the expense of others having to stand.
People that do that are DBs. The indications are that pretty strong that this guy fits into that category.
This is it in a nutshell.
It is common courtesy to move your bag if the bus/train begins to fill up. I can't speak to what led up to the video or her tone while speaking to buddy. I used to take the bus/train a lot, 5 years at Uni, and then 4 years working down town. It is a common expectation that if the train/bus is filling up that you pick up your bag and put it on your lap/floor.

He's holding a bag in one of the photos, so I think it's safe to assume that's the bag sitting on the seat. Even if that's not the case (I.e. his bag was on the floor at his feet), wouldn't leaving an empty seat be just as bad if not worse?
Maybe no such event took even place, and was meant as a part of a rapid transit public service campaign, like those posters on the C-Trains for reducing bad behavior. I can see how this might be effective if seat hogs think they'll get publicly shamed.

As hyperbolic as this statement is, this guy is likely going to suffer far worse than if he had quietly robbed a liquor store or something. The internet warriors will not stop until they ruin the life of some guy who could have simply been having a bad day.
He could be a giant dick, but there is no crime against that.

Anyone who sits on the train/bus and puts their bag on the seat when it's crowded is a dick. Every once in a while I'll see someone do that on the train. Most people don't say anything and just stand around them. But I've always wondered how can someone consciously do that and be aware that everyone is staring at them. You can just feel the tension in the air when someone does that. Same with people who don't move down the seat and make others walk over them so they can sit. How can you not know it's a ###### move? Leprechaun deserves the shame he gets.
