I thought thiessen was ok actually.
So who else do we think gets cut today? Hathaway? Hanowski? Bvb? Klimchuk due to injury?

I would expect a whole bunch of cuts today. The list will be long and the axe will fall hard. I think the Addy training camp starts Monday and they will need almost a full squad to open camp.

I think you're going to see a bunch of cuts minus the players that still have a decent chance to make the team (i.e., Granlund, Gaudreau, Bennett, Reinhart, Ortio). Plus, every year there's that "surprise" player that doesn't get cut for the sake of development purposes, like Kanzig last year. If I had to take a stab at who that "surprise" player will be, I'd go with Corban Knight.

His being on waivers has nothing to do with him not playing well. We have two NHL goalies who are healthy and going to start the year here. He's on waivers because his seniority requires it before he can be assigned to the AHL.

So that's it for pre-season games on TV too right? I can't seem to find any of the remaining ones anywhere. Too bad, it was nice, even if the last game was boring and a Canucks broadcast, to at least see a Flames pre-season game.

I assume Theissen and Carr battling for the 2nd job in the AHL (do we have a shorter name for Adirondack yet?) and the other goes to the ECHL?

If anyone is awesome at picking out players just from a picture, according to Derek Wills this is the group heading to Colorado, aka not getting cut today:

The Calgary Flames announced today the following training camp assignments:
Adirondack Flames (AHL)
Trevor Gillies (F)
Ben Hanowski (F)
Mathieu Tousignant (F)
Bryce Van Brabant (F)
Curtis Gedig (F)
Ken Agostino (F)
Garnet Hathaway (F)
David Wolf (F)
Dustin Stevenson (D)
Doug Carr (G)
Brad Thiessen (G)
Junior
Keegan Kanzig (D) (Victoria – WHL)
The Flames have 45 players remaining at camp (3x goalies, 17x defencemen, 25x forwards).
I thought there would have been more cuts to be honest.

Pretty good guesses, although less cuts than you expected.
Only guy on the list who is a bit of a disappointment is Hanowski. I'd have hoped for a better showing from him after a year in the AHL. Jooris, Elson and Arnold have all lasted longer.

The only surprise cut for me was Agostino. I thought he might stick around and get a few more looks as he did some good things out there. The AHL will be good for him though. Hopefully he can establish himself as a Stempniak type winger and get used to the pro game and schedule.

So here's who's left:
Forwards (25):
Raymond
Monahan
Hudler
Gaudreau
Backlund (injured)
Colborne
Glencross
Stajan
Jones
Bollig
Bouma
McGrattan
Byron
Setoguchi
Bennett
Baertschi
Reinhart
Ferland
Granlund
Knight
Poirier (injured)
Klimchuk (injured)
Arnold
Elson
Jooris
Defence (17):
Giordano
Brodie
Smid
Wideman
Russell
Engelland
Brookbank (try-out)
Diaz (try-out)
Yonkman (try-out - I'm expecting an AHL contract at some point)
Wotherspoon
Potter (injured)
Kulak
Sieloff
Cundari
Culkin
Ramage
Acolatse
Goalies (3)
Hiller
Ramo
Ortio
I guess Hartley must like what he's seen from Elson. I'm surprised he wasn't cut today.

I agree. Hanowski did not look improved after a year of pro experience, I was also disappointed.

Maybe it's just the Yale connection, but Agostino reminds me of Chris Higgins. As a first year pro, the AHL will be good for him. I'm looking forward to seeing his progression this year.

I think "disappointment" in Hanowski and Agostino is going to be the norm if one is expecting them in the show. They're both just kind of 'meh' players. Every draft is pushing their chances of serious NHL time closer to zero imo.

This is Agostino's first pro season... he still has time.

Yeah, Agostino definitely has more of a chance than Hanowski.
