Johnny not being at this game makes me think the coaches have moved him to same schedule as the majority of the vets that played last night which is positive for those that want him to make the team

I think they've simply seen enough. They know what he brings each and every game cause Gaudreau is/has been very consistent in bringing his game each night. With guys who have been more inconsistent like Sven, they need more of a look to see exactly where he's at. I think Johnny has fast tracked to the final cut.

#Flames defence pairings tonight (I think):
Russell-Ramage,
Kanzig-Acolatse,
Culkin-Sieloff.
Ramo and Carr are the goalies.
Faces will be caved in tonight methinks.

I don't believe Knight can cave in faces.

He might have to take a faceoff against Bieksa.

They could be just using his Mandatory 2 days off as well per the CBA.

Second, he's very versatile and could play centre or wing. Has enough smarts to play a top 6 game yet is a big body and could play the bottom 6, could play on the pp and pk, works hard and still plays a responsible game. He's still young and sure he's not flashy but we need these type of players too.

True, but I still think Bennett and Granlund have had better performances thus far and deserve to start the year on the big team more than Reinhart (although I'm not sure I believe the whole meritocracy thing management has been preaching, talk is cheap).

I think Reinhart has done well, just not as well as Bennett and Granlund.

Meritocracy doesn't just refer to the last few fans or a preseason, it should be noted. A rookie has to belong more than a vet for more than just a single preseason

Due to 1 way vs 2 way contract, the young guy probably has to blow the vet out of the water to take his spot. Johnny aside, I would say that Beartschi and Granlund have out played Setogouchi and Jones so far, but Setoguchi and Jones are still going to start ahead of Sven and Granlund on opening night.

Meritocracy is a nice buzz word, but it isn't entirely possible when dealing with contract status.

Meh, we'll see if Treliving is a man of his word. He's said in many interviews if a kid wins the spot he's more than willing to make room and move out the players they've supplanted.

Setoguchi needs to show up soon or he'll be on his way out. And Jones, well I don't know how they're going to move him and the 4m in cap they need but I am sure Treliving will find a way if the kids win a spot.

Still plenty of camp to weed through yet though, it's all about winding up into game shape, the kids right now are fueled on enthusiasm and adrenaline, lets see what happens once the dust settles.

Is this game streaming online anywhere? In Saskatoon for the night and I don't think they have sportsnet technology here yet.
