you can pick up skunk traps and release them in the country. I've had friends do it successfully before, but haven't done it myself. We had skunks living under the neighbour porch before, but we all decided to leave them (all these skunks were in Mckenzie towne)
You can also hire people to catch them and release them. I don't have any links though, but it was easy to look up.

By any chance was this near Fish Creek? Our dog got sprayed by a skunk last week and it was hell.
Up until this year I had never come across a skunk in Calgary. Seems like they're crawling out of the wood work this fall.

Find a female black cat and paint a white strip down it's back.... Pepe won't be able to resist

These things are everywhere in North Calgary. We had one living on our cul-de-sac somewhere. My neighbours are lazy and don't always put their garbage in their bin, so we have had a few stinky visits as their dog gets sprayed.

Am I the only person that read Gringos post and thought "not a chance in hell trapped skunks are going in the backseat of my car"?

Steamed skunk? What is this the 1930's? Everyone knows it should be braised.

Yeah, we'd relocate them out on my parents' farm the same way: put out a skunk trap, and then put them in the back of the truck and drive them out to some abandoned outbuildings. If I remember right, you want to put a heavy cloth over the trap once you catch it. They'll usually stay calm if then can't see you. They only spray if they're startled, or if they feel threatened. But if they're feeling threatened they'll give you some warning signs, particularly a raised tail.

My wife was "chased" down the street by a skunk the other night while walking our dog. Of course her story was met by me with laughter and sarcastic remarks instead of compassion but she's sticking to her account of the incident.
Figure i'm due to be spayed and she'll get the last laugh.

I am surprised no one has commented on his dad being trapped by skunks yet...
Aside from the obvious smell issues, skunks aren't too bad. As others have mentioned, the key is to remain calm and the skunk will leave you alone. Skunks won't spray unless they feel to be truly in danger, so spraying is a last resort.
I have a couple skunks living underneath my patio and they are not a problem at all. In fact, one night while having a smoke outside, one skunk casually walked underneath my chair, looked up at me kind of as if to say "what's up" and went on it's way.

Any chance you were smoking some "calm" promoting cigarets? No way in hell I'm sticking around to have a dart while a skunk walks under my chair. Then again, i don't smoke...

The thing with catching a Skunk in a trap or cage, is that it doesn't prevent them from spraying. My wife's cousin found that out the hard way.

I honestly don't understand how your dad was trapped in the garage for 2 hours. Couldn't he at the very least drive his vehicle out of the garage?
