I'd currently consider our "stars" to be Giordano, Hudler, Monahan and Johnny Hockey. So yeah, technically only one is going. Of course "star" is termed a bit loosely around here. But Gio is no doubt a stud. Hudler because he's our top producer. The other two will get there. But I suppose you could now throw Hiller into that bunch. Damn I'm ready to get the actual season going to see how this guy fares between the pipes for us..

Johnny Hockey is not a star, nope sorry, every bones in my body wants him to be, but currently he is not.

Take me putting Johnny on that list as my prediction for this season. By season's end, he'll be considered a budding star. Just like Monahan is league wide. I'm just putting him up there prematurely because I'm that sold on the kid.

And in response to the Iggy vs Doan captaincy thing.. I'd chalk up a good portion of that work ethic and success of a bargain bin roster team to the man behind the bench, Tippett. Doan definitely had a hand, but he never scored a huge amount of point to help the team, other players often outscored him. Look at Iginla's consistency in leading the team in points, goals, and specifically, game winning goals. I agree, in the last couple years I think he didn't have enough in him to effectively lead a group of aging vets, to shake that "country club" atmosphere. But you look at the roster, it lacked any youth with energy and jump and that could push the vets. Who's gonna motivate a crop of old guys that have their roster spots locked in from day one? As Giordano is doing a great job as captain, you have to give fair credit for this new work ethic to the coach and to the new mix of players that are pushing each other for jobs, ice time, etc. I don't think the lack of success necessarily all fell on Iggy's shoulders. We all know how badly the guy wants to win. That's why he's trekking from team to team and still putting up 30 a season. What's Doan doing?

I have a new respect for him after watching him today.


I met a fella while I was waiting in line with my kids. We chatted and this fella knew Doan from grade school. Said he hadn't seen him in a long time. As Doan got up to him, he reached out and shook the guys hand and knew him by name. Also asked about his family. While he might be a dick on the ice, my one & only experience with him was great.

He is on a PTO as far as I can tell so I'm sure he will be game to drop the gloves.
