Screw it. I've been sick all weekend and this week, I'm cracking one now. Prepare for epic posts later on if my self-control fails!

Unless they're sexist, racist, bigoted or otherwise unsavory. I cant promise all of that though because I'm not sexist, racist or bigoted but hey, alcohol surprises us all.

Seriously? After some of the comments made by mods on the issue and a rather extensive explanation on why we've decided to close the thread you came up with this?

Although we could debate whether the continued consumption of women as sex symbols is perpetuating a cycle wherein women feel compelled to satisfy the male gaze in order to obtain status in a patriarchal society, or whether due to inequalities in opportunity and pay, women are forced into subjecting themselves to objectification for profit, and whether this really constitutes consent in a broader sense. In addition, the pornography business has massive ties to human-trafficking rings, which presents another fly in the ointment, but may we'll leave all of this for another time.

The problem is not specific to satisfying the demands of men. A lot of advertising and publications (female or teen girl magazines) use women as sex symbols to sell to the female demographic.

I agree, but the message is still the same, "buy this magazine, so you can look like this and men will like you." Although that's also somewhat of a heterosexist point of view. Anyways I was trying for a bit of levity. I don't think this is a debate we need to have at the moment.

I'll admit that I will miss checking out the new posts in the thread when it was bumped up, but at the end of the day, it's not the end of the world it's gone. If it bothered some on the board, then so be it. Like others have said, there are many places to find that sort of content. Perhaps a hockey based forum is not the best place for it.

As in, male models don't get paid as much as female ones... even for the same work?

Is that really it?

Did NateDogg start the thread or something?

Seriously.

It was a tongue in cheek response to the initial argument:

Quote:
If people were offended by the comments made in the forum, then isn't that the issue that should have been dealt with?
Quote:
It was. No more pictures, no more comments. See? Easy.
As I initially stated, I understand why the mods chose to close the thread, and in all honesty, it doesn't upset me in the slightest, but as I noted, I also see the other side, and why some are upset. My stance is, that obviously there was an issue, it was brought to the attention, of not just the mods, but the entire community. Everyone had the opportunity to contribute their opinions, a poll was cast, and action was taken.

However it is becoming more and more clear, that the pictures in the thread were in fact not so much the issue, as the comments that were made in regards to the pictures. So, I question why the thread was deleted, rather than offensive posters being dealt with.

Simple cost-benefit ratio.

Sending out a bunch of infractions and sin bins requires a large time cost for almost no benefit in terms of adjusting the forum's culture.

Nuking the thread has far lower time cost, but the visibility of it forces everyone involved to evaluate. If the 'offensive posters' also take a look at that and step back a little, then a greater benefit is achieved.

It wasn't just one thing, it was the thread as a whole. In the explanation in the OP in the other thread:

Quote:
While it is possible to keep the thread and moderate it more closely and control the content and comments, ultimately its existence just isn’t needed, doesn't significantly contribute to what we want CP to be, and as long as it is around it says something about who we are.
That about sums it up for me and my stance/opinion.

Did you just seriously copy BlackArcher101's post from the other thread and ask basically the same question that the mods had already answered?

Nope. You've jumped the shark on this one.

I'm glad that you managed to shoehorn every buzzword that your Women's Studies Prof said in your first semester into that post, but I'm proficient in BS and know when someone is trying to shove it into my face.

Boiling your whole lot of nonsense into one sentence:

"If men didnt want to have sex with women the world would be a better place."

Sorry though, thats not the world that the rest of us live in.

I'm not sure threads that haven't been posted in since 2009 are at the top of the 'to do' list, but as we update guidelines we'll look at everything.
