Because the S4 Mini was a POS... it was one of those gimped last generation hardware phones. They put very crappy hardware in that which was much different than their flagship

Yeah I still haven't hit the button on a new phone even though I'm eligible for an upgrade. I'm pretty sure I won't be getting an iPhone now as I would miss Android's superior operating system too much. My wife has actually convinced me of that - she has a 5s (work) and a Note 3 (personal) and says it feels like a phone from back in time when she uses the Apple compared to the Android.

I want the Z3 compact so bad and it's supposed to be in Canadian stores by the end of September, but I don't think I'll be able to upgrade to it on Telus, which totally sucks. I don't want to buy it outright as I think that would be a waste of money. I'd love to have that two-day battery life, though. And waterproof to boot...how sick is that.

Yea, I just find it funny that many argue how everything integrates so well on Apple, and I am not saying it doesn't, but the experience on Android is pretty amazing.

Step 1) Get new Android Phone (or in my case, installed cyanogenmod)
Step 2) Enter Google Account
Step 3) Enjoy my phone that now has access to my:
- Email (Gmail)
- Contacts
- Calendar
- Web browsing history and favorites etc
- Google Play Music subscription
- Previous app purchases

... and possibly more, but this is what I've been using it for. Again, not saying Apple doesn't do this, but for me it was so easy I was floored.

Still that's iPhone 6 size, I mean an actual 4" phone. I wonder if there's enough people that want that to support the effort.

I don't get why it is included in the benchmark comparisons more often. Does Google not want that to happen for some reason? It just strikes me as odd, bearing in mind that I am a very, very casual observer on the far periphery of the Smartphone Thunderdome.

Yeah when I first got my Nexus 4 I had the exact same experience, at the time getting contacts and calendar to sync properly wasn't easy on iPhone.

It's a bit smaller than the iPhone 6 (not a ton). It's actually almost identical in size to my Galaxy S2 which was just about perfect for me, but they managed to cram a .5" larger screen into it.

There may still be a market for a premium phone with a smaller footprint than the Xperia Z3, but I can't imagine it's a large market.

I'd jump on a smaller phone. I think somebody needs to make a flip phone. Seriously, if Apple slammed a hinge on the middle of that screen so I could fold it in half for an armoured version of itself I'd buy one full price right now.

Thanks, that's pretty neat, but they only went half-way there. I need a flagship phone with touch screen top and bottom. That's cool it's at least on one company's radar, though.

How big is that phone? It says the screen is 3.5" which is the same size as the iphone 4/4s but at half the resolution.

So is this phone basically two iphones attached together? If that's the case, then why is the keypad so basic?

I wish they had a picture of someone holding the phone for reference purposes.

Samsung has previously discussed and "shown" potentially fold-able displays which might be incorporated into phones in the near future. At that time (late 2013) it was anticipated that this type of technology might be available by 2015.

I like my iPhone more than I liked the Android. It just seemed that I didn't use my phone to goof off like I did on my iPhone. the IOS seems (to me) easier to use, and I don't/never had issues with the battery life. The Andriod on the other hand would be down to 50% in a few hours without using it. I can turn everything off but what good is that? I didn't have to do that with my iPhone..

It just wasn't for me.

Bendy phones. I expect Apple's spin to be "Truth is we wanted to give the user a choice between a curved screen or a straight device"

So much potentially cool stuff coming down the pipeline. I always get a chuckle when posters saying we're maxed out in terms of hardware innovation and there is nowhere else to go.

We're living in such an exciting time with technology growth. Even though I never see myself going back to an iphone, the competition between the makers is doing wonders for us consumers. Everytime apple has one of their lame announcements I look forward to see how the other smartphone makers will respond.

I tend to believe it is nearing saturation. It's coming down to size, screen quality, and hardware power. I don't doubt there are going to be funky curved screens and flip out screens but it's going to be the same apps and general functionality. The interface is still going to boil down to voice and finger commands and it's going to boil down to how big you want your phone. Batteries are the only hardware area I can see a lot of room for improvement. The main innovations left are software based in adaptability, integration with other devices, etc.
