Yeah, it looks like a line up for players competing for a job with few vets. Glad to see Ferland getting a start.

The most experienced / "penciled in" guy dressed is Russell. Everyone else either fighting for contracts or to prove they belong in the regular six. The whole point of preseason.

According to Drury18's list there are 13 forwards and 7 defencemen, so Klimchuk and Ramage are missing.

Lol, tell me something I don't know. I was just commenting on the defensive lineup not looking so sharp, for obvious reasons that it is preseason.

They're missing, but Klimchuk was paired with two guys that aren't going to Sylvan, as was Ramage. They're the probable cut guys based on that.

Baertschi was pretty meh for the game in Edmonton. I'm hoping that was just the game to shake the rust off. I hope he shows he's the best player on the ice tomorrow.

Same here. Both games had no flow at all so even the best players didn't stand out too much... here's hoping baertschi has an awesome game tomorrow. Would be sooo awesome for both him and gaudreau to make the big club out camp. Long shot I know but I want to see both of them have great breakout seasons with the big club.

Would be awesome if Sven Baertschi started playing as the Sven Baertschi that scored 2.0 ppg in the dub.

Quote:
“I’m coming in with a completely different mindset than last year,” says Joe Colborne.

“Just the change in my confidence level is huge. Being able to go out there and assert myself. Coming back heavier and stronger with a better lower body base than I‘ve ever had before.

“It’s amazing what confidence can do for you. The first half of the year was just kinda going out there and being happy that I was in an NHL lineup. The second half of the year it started to click and I said to myself ‘I want to do more.’

“It comes down to the attention to detail form the coaching staff. Over the year you start to develop the good habits they’re looking for. A bunch of us young guys started to generate bigger roles for ourselves.

“Just a huge growth year for quite a few of us.”
Quote:
“Colby’s no different than a lot of our young players,” says Calgary Flames’ coach Bob Hartley. “As much as those guys were good last year, I want to be their partner. I want to make sure that I’m with them in good times and bad times so they know they’re part of today, but more importantly they’re part of tomorrow.

“My job is to keep raising the bar for those guys, but at the same time give them expectations they can feel good about.”
Quote:
“Over the last 5-10 years,” he explains, “the hockey world has caught up with the latest in working out. The core is now the most important thing. I did Pilates three times a week this year, over and above the other exercises. It’s taken over the sporting world and with good reason. All the strength comes from the middle.

“The upper body is secondary. It’s nice to be walking around like Gio (Mark Giordano), looking like some body-builder. But you look at him and his core is stronger than anyone’s, too. He spends more time doing that. His legs are stronger.

“It’s not as if he’s just looking good in the dressing room.”
Quote:
“Going up against a guy like Shea Weber, doesn’t matter how good you feel, you’re going to lose some battles. But knowing I’m going to make him work for everything, then when you get a mismatch with one of the smaller D-men knowing you can take advantage of it . . . that’s exciting for me.

“You take that and it lets the skill come out. If you’re winning battles you have the puck on your stick more.”
Quote:
“Like (Sean Monahan) and quite a few of our young players, he’s put on a quite a few pounds of muscle,” says Hartley with delight. “Just looking at the game the other night, he’s much more confident going at the net.

“He’s going to play some PK for us, some power play. With Colby, he’s just starting. It’s just a matter of showing patience.

“Those big guys, it always takes a little longer.”

I love Colborne interviews. Not many cliches with him unless the reporter asks a cliche question.

When I read what you say, is it wrong that I think of you as a man in a green suit and a shrunken head?

Here's an article with Trevor Gillies, our AHL enforcer.

Quote:
FIGHTER CULTURE
12:07: This conversation happens post-fight in the penalty-box:
Mirasty: “Hey, we’ll go again. Hey!”
Gillies: “What?”
Mirasty: “In the third, we’ll go again.”
Gillies: It’s unclear what he says, but the gist is that he says something about being in the line-up, and appears to decline.
Mirasty: “Okay, well I’m going to jump someone then.”
As in, you got the better of me, you owe me a shot at redemption. This is crazy talk.
Gillies: “What?”
Mirasty: “I’m going to jump somebody then.”
Gillies: (Completely reasonable and respectful, gets Mirasty’s point) “Okay, we’ll go, just let me get a couple shifts in.” Then I’m 90% sure Gillies says something like “You owe me one then,” for giving him the shot to save face.
Mirasty: “Kay.”

Quote:
11:16 – Yablonski: “Yeah, I’m pretty sure he was knocked out there at the end, but y’know, if you don’t get knocked out from time to time, you’re not fighting the right guys.”

I could never do that job. I am not sure why, but I always assumed the KHL wouldn't have fighting. So much for that assumption.
