Who has it in their head? Metal is stronger but once bent beyond a certain point won't bend back. Plastic is weaker and will snap when bent beyond a certain point but is more pliable. That'd be one of the things I'd be looking at depending on how I used my phone.

I don't think Apple ever said the phone was the best designed phone money can buy, and even if they did they said it was the best designed phone, not that it was the strongest 4.7" piece of matter possible.

Bent aluminium phones isn't new at all. People bent their HTCs. People bent their Lumias.

Yeah, but you should see the condition of the thing they hit with their Lumias. This one time, I accidentally dropped my Lumia 920 in a parked rental car. The car was a write off.

While I am no metallurgist, I am pretty sure that is false. Apple may have to look at changing the aluminum alloy they are using - adding potentially molybdenum, manganese, magnesium or titanium to reduce the malleability of the metal.

For what it's worth camera equipment tends to very much equate metal with quality over plastic. Lower end lenses/bodies tend to be plastic, higher end metal.

So when it comes to gadgets that see a ton of hands on use there is a precedent for thinking "metal good/plastic bad".

But photographers don't buy a new camera every year. The need to have a metal phone is a stupid mental block IMO, as most people are going to put a case on it anyways, and then buy a new device in a year or two

Just got a 6 yesterday. Fit and finish is top notch as expected. Migration from 4S was seamless. Love the screen - big and very sharp. Performance is waaay better.

I'm wondering if it's too big though. It still feels awkward, almost to the point of trading down to a 5S. But the screen....

After having the phone for a few days now, I can honestly say it is my favourite release since the 3GS (I always loved that phone). Screen is amazing, the phone has a nice weight and balance to it, and the size boost makes a difference. Couldnt be happier.

That's nothing.

I dropped my 3310 down an escalator at a shopping mall. 12 dead, 16 injured.

Thankfully I could still play snake that night.

On a serious note. I found my 3310 in an old shoe box full of junk a few months ago. And it still powered up with 1 a full bar of power............. It has sat in the box for 9 years.

Comedians always make the same lame "Build the plane out of the black box material." joke. But Nokia 3310's were the real deal. My best story was mine falling out of my pocket at 140 kph on a motorcycle. The guy behind me speeds up and flags me to stop. We go back and pick up what is left. And we could only find the back case guts and battery. I plug the battery in, and it sparks right up. Order another set of covers on eBay for $10, and the phone was like new. I bet that thing would last another 10 years if I plugged a sim card back into it.

LOL, I actually was considering rocking it for a week to kick it old school. The problem is I need to get an old SIM card to do it. My cards are all micro SIM's now. That and I still need to find the charger.

That's changing the material, I meant how the phone is built.

I'm pretty sure they use an alloy already, but as you say they can use different alloys. Problem is when you change one property you also change others.. so the metal might be less malleable but then becomes more brittle. Doesn't bend in the pocket, but fractures like plastic when dropped, etc.

Could also make it more rigid by using internal structures, but given the limited space inside that's probably not possible.

I wonder if turning the glass towards the leg would make a difference.

I'm going to revise my initial impressions, my initial full charge might not have been full, I'm currently sitting at over 2 days on a single charge and still 25% left, and probably higher usage than typical with playing around with new features or apps.

Only really annoying thing so far is I haven't been able to find a decent audiobook player that has a sleep timer that warns you when it's going to turn it off and you can shake to reset the timer. Found one super old one that kinda works but often just stops playing when transitioning between files.

I do plan on getting a ridgid case... so hopefully that helps.

I never judge the battery until the "New Phone Effect" wears off - initially you have a tendency to just use the shiny new phone more than you would after novelty wears off. Don't get me wrong, the iPhone 5 battery was garbage, but not nearly as epic garbage as I thought it was the first couple of weeks of owning that phone.

I buy apple products but the bending of the 6+ is a little concerning to me. I don't keep phones in my pants so I don't think it would be an issue to me but it does appear they may have to make a change to solidify the metal casing.

iOS 8.0.1 is out, but hold off on it some people are reporting that it fixes stuff but introduces new problems.
