10. Thou shalt respect thy fellow poster. Treat others as you would want them to treat you. Attack the idea, not the person. Threads that degrade into personal attacks will be locked. Don't bait people into arguments. Respect that other teams' fans feel as passionate about their team and hate your team as much as you love yours and hate theirs.
Again, this can be subjective and at the moderator's discretion.
In disputes, a long time poster with a known good history will probably get the benefit of the doubt. A new poster coming in with both guns blazing, not so much... Try to establish yourself before going insane, ok?
Use of the word "troll" is becoming far too pervasive, it is an insult just like any other. Only in the most obvious of circumstances would calling someone a troll be acceptable, and even in those cases please just report the post rather than contributing to the mess.
Do not post private information about other posters.
|
How many times have we seen this rule bent? So if someone has a history of being a "good poster" but then baits people into arguments, or belittles someone because of their opinion or view, it's ok? How about the same rules apply to everyone across the board? It shouldn't matter if their a good poster or a bad poster. Same rule should apply.
What does it matter if someone has been here a month, 6 months or 6 years? No one should be allowed to bait and get the benefit of the doubt because "they post like that" or "that poster is always a dick."
You want to expand and make the culture of CP more inclusive? Then get rid of that garbage and don't bend the rules for certain users.

Who said men shouldn't be allowed to view pictures of women or that it's like slavery? He's drawing a parallel as to why the poll isn't meaningful in terms of deciding what the right thing to do is.

Freedom of speech only means that the government can't lock you up for expressing an opinion. You have never had freedom of speech on this site. All forum members agree to the rules as dictated by the moderators who determine what type of posts are acceptable.

While I'm against the decision, I can say at least one good thing should come of this:
Now that the mods have greater sensitivity for posts considered offensive by the broader CP community, they now can be the proper arbiters of what's offensive or not. The usual suspects can now stop derailing OT threads by throwing the 'that's sexist/racist/homophobic' flag on errant posts and let the mods do their job.

There have been a great number of long time posters who have gotten either the boot or a lengthy vacation because of the way they post. I think the mods do a pretty decent job of policing that.

What? A third boob thread and I missed it? Are they remaking 'Total Recall' again?
I mean, the last remake was terrible, I could see them taking a second shot at it.

Yeah, that's not really how that works. Just like in real life, having processes for reporting bigoted behaviour doesn't preclude us from discussing the bigoted views of those in question.

My favorite thing in the world is people patting themselves on the back for how inclusive their opinions are.

You shouldn't expect to voice a poorly thought out opinion without some kind of negative feedback. The quality of the forum goes down if there isn't a barrier against terrible posts.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit disappointed. I did find it an interesting challenge to find pics that 'worked' with the rules here, that still really caught my eyes.
It'll also be interesting to see if this is indeed the kickoff of 'the death of sexism, the birth of inclusiveness' on CP, or if it's still 'the same ol' same ol'" after a couple of weeks/months. Remember, the majority of the ladies on the site didn't have a problem with the thread itself, but rather the random bits of "surprise sexism" peppered around the site. Which pretty much everyone agreed was actually the real problem.
But, "not my playground, not my rules."
I also have to say, it stings just a little bit to all of the sudden "lose" nearly 1300 posts.

Oh, so it's OK to belittle a poster as long as you're protecting the forum against a "terrible post"?
Got it.
"Hey, I'm not being a jerk, I'm protecting the integrity of the forums."
Hilarious.
There is a proper way to reply to "terrible posts." But the typical CP way is somewhere along the lines of how many 'thanks' someone can get for being a jerk.

I'm against censorship in any form, which is not what the thread was discussing. CP has already decided to censor and moderate, and the question was whether to modify that censorship and moderation, not whether it was appropriate at all. I'm not on anyone's "side", I don't agree with censorship but I also don't agree with making degrading comments about women in every thread where they can be somehow shoehorned in.
Quoting my sarcastic post making fun of all the people repeatedly making the same asinine argument shows, yet again, that your grasp of what happened in that thread is, at best, thoroughly imperfect. The argument that you think happened - freedom-loving regular guys vs the forces of political correctness - never happened at all. It was an argument about what is and isn't appropriate behaviour in a moderated, public community, and the side for the status quo on behaviour pretty well screwed themselves over with crap like the "3 boobs" thread so recently and completely turned into a festival of ######.

Never saw the point of that thread being here, never really looked at it. There's 100 million other places to find pictures of women on the internet.
That said, can we still make fun of fat people?

Weak decision. Will not have the effect folks are seeking. I'll have a more in depth thought on this later.
