Default YLYL Thread and other things...

You will note that we have deleted the YLYL thread.
The moderation team gave a lot of thought on how to best arrive at a decision, and at the end of the day removing the thread seemed like the best course of action for a number of reasons:
- Our desire is for Calgarypuck to be a community that is inclusive and promotes input from all sorts of people.
- Feedback from the community helped us become more aware that this is an (often embarrassing) issue on CP beyond just the YLYL thread. In this we need to get better.
- While it is possible to keep the thread and moderate it more closely and control the content and comments, ultimately its existence just isn’t needed, doesn't significantly contribute to what we want CP to be, and as long as it is around it says something about who we are.

However, we want to emphasize that this is not just about this thread, which is one of the reasons we were delayed in this decision. We think some broader changes/improvements are needed. This isn’t about over-moderating or even significantly shifting out collective approaches. But we need to be more sensitive and inclusive.

To that end, in addition to removing the thread, we will be:
- Expanding the moderation team with an aim to bring in moderators that can give us a broader view point. We will look for strong moderator candidates first, but we hope to find one or more that represent some of the specific groups on this site (e.g. female, LGBT).
- We are working to update our guidelines to be more specific about our stance on sexist, racist, homophobic and other such comments
- We will enforce those comments more strictly. We recognize the bulk of them are made to be humorous but they are become less and less acceptable in today’s world and we will adjust our moderation as such. This will not mean doling out tons of infractions – we will start by giving people warnings and discussing with them how their posting behavior needs to be adjusted

We welcome any questions

I always checked out the YLYL thread, but since the open discussion on it I never really bothered to check it out again after the valid points that were brought up and how the thread could be bothersome to a important group.

It's a thread that I couldn't care less about keeping on the forum, and if this helps in improving the community in decreasing the sexism and other offensive content on the forums, making everyone feel more comfortable, I'm all for it.

While I personally don't care to see that thread deleted as I never really looked at it or posted, I worry this will cause more threads to get locked or deleted and less willingness by posters to express opinions (whether you agree with them or not) for fear of being moderated. But I guess we'll see how it all shakes down.

There's plenty of sites on the internet to see those sexy ladies but there's only one CP. Agree with the decision.

It's primarily a hockey site, don't really care if a thread with barely safe for work pics is removed.

Terrible decision...It's amazing what a vocal minority can do to the majority

cant wait for the whiners to keep whining about other things and the mod team will have to redraw the line to cater to the sensitive handful

We should start a pool. My money is on another 5 years till another line is redrawn

But who forces you to come here?

I posted in that thread. I didn't see anything wrong with it, and I voted to keep it and moderate it. That being said I can see the concerns expressed by the female & male posters on the site.

That's kind of the point of moderation, to have people less willing to post certain opinions (the kinds of opinions that go against the guidelines of the site, be it private information, profanity, insults, racism, etc). People can have whatever opinions they like, but the opinions they can post here are limited.

I hope that in deleting this thread we can still be reasonable in accomodating similar threads with actual relavent purposes. The olympians thread, ESPN body issue, and Henrik Lundquist doing underwear commercials.

I also hope everytime one of these type of threads occurs it doesn't result in people getting butthurt over YLYL being deleted.

that doesn't make any sense, these rules were JUST posted and applied, so how could I have a problem with something that was just implemented?

Comprehension skills are the only things you need to work on

As has been expressed to you many times, it's not about what the minority wants. It's about what's right.

Lines are always drawn and redrawn. That proves nothing

what's "right" in the opinion of the minority.

in this case, it's unfortunate that it was in the hands of the decision makers

What was that about whining?

Anyway, color me somewhat surprised. I didn't really bother posting in the discussion thread because I didn't really think anything would change. I'm sure that will go over like a fart in church but whatever.

No, what's right in the opinion of the moderation team. You are mistaking correlation for causation.

You can disagree, but try to be magnanimous about it. Being insulting towards the moderation team is something that doesn't end well, they volunteer their time and dealing with people who insult when they don't like something isn't worth anyone's free time.

Haha sure, those threads have such a 'relevant purpose'. They're posted to ogle pictures of half-naked, attractive women/men and should also be deleted. That's the message board rules now.
