I'm still really pumped about Hunter Smith. Kid is a beast and plays like it, as some mentioned, if he learns to use his size better and works on some skill he could be a pretty good NHL'er.
We have a pretty good prospect pool.

Iginla in any jersey but a Flames jersey makes me queasy.
Two years ago I would have agreed, but I really think the Bruins jersey was fine. Pittsburgh and Colorado seem wrong, but the Boston jersey just seemed right.

Do the Flames have any sort of special connection to Victoria's WHL team? Kanzig, Carrol, McGee. Maybe they feel that it's under-scouted, given that's it's newer and way out west?
Could be giving Carroll a longer look because the Flames could turn him pro this year if they feel it will be better for his development.
I do think he will go back for his overage WHL season though.
Yeah, he's been doing pretty well and has the size and gumption to compete with the pros. Surprising to me because when first drafted I thought he was a complete long shot.

Yeah, Dave Lowry is their head coach.

Dave Lowry is their coach, so that could be the pipeline. I can't imagine Victoria is any less scouted than, say Prince George.

Surprised with Smith being cut so early. Not that I thought he would even be considered to make the jump in the NHL this year, but assumed the Flames would keep him around sort of like Kanzig last year (though that may have been because he was hurt). Good to have a kid like him hanging around the pros and absorbing stuff. I guess if the Flames know a prospect isn't going to make the cut, might as well get his junior season started off quickly.
Hope Carrol gets signed and into the AHL. Kid looks ready. I remember Lowry and even Todd Button stating that Kanzig was one of the leaders in Victoria. I wonder if he would be the next captain in that case? Anyone know?

Lowry also won Coach of the Year last year here. He did a hell of a job. I love telling the Canuck fans that cheer for Royals that half the team are Flames prospects - so they are vicariously cheering for the Flames.
Lowry also left the Flames on a pretty sour note, so it's not like he would be feeding Flames all this inside information IMO. Sure he probably talks to the Flames if they ask him about a player, but it's probably more Ron Sutter going out and watching Kanzig, seeing other players pop out for him, and informing amateur scouting to go take a closer look at guys like Carroll
Well I don't know if it was something that would last for a while, but I will tell you he talked about it in length to my Dad and I at Brewster's a few weeks after he got the news, and you basically couldn't shut him up for 2 hours.

That was an amazing goal. How have we not seen that one posted around here before!
