I'm pretty pumped to see Baertschi play. Sounds like he's got his head on straight this time around.

Well I know which game I'm going to be watching. Whichever one has the most goons. Screw skill hockey in the pre-season. I want to see some good ol' Battle of Alberta.

Sure Tousignant is a dick like Lapierre, but he is not the turtle Lapierre is. I can handle our guys being pricks, so long as they are willing to drop the gloves too which Tousignant definitely is.

Gaudreau-Monahan-Hudler has to be the most talented Flames line since.... I can't really think of one right now. So amazing that hockey is finally back, seemed like the longest summer with no hockey ever.

Johnny's first game action on saddledome ice. Hopefully the experience motivates him just that much more. Gonna be good.

From a limited viewing, David Wolf seems to be quite good at hitting guys before they have a chance to hit him.
He had a huge one vs the Dinos, and then this one today vs Cundari.

He was playing with grats yesterday too.
Don't know what the coaches are doing there. Makes no sense. He's not playing on the fourth line if he makes the team, surround the kid with realistic linemates. It's like they're purposely putting him in impossible situations to give an excuse to cut him. (Ok, just my conspiracy theory side rambling lol) but still.....

Everyone is well aware of Johnny's skill. It's been showcased non-stop since he arrived for the summer camps.
Lining Gaudreau up against thuggish goons is a realistic scenario of what will happen on the road, where opposing teams will have the line-change advantage. The Western conference is a tough grind and, as much as we're going to hate it, coaches are going to be getting their thugs to target the little man to put him off his game.
In these situations it's important that Johnny can play with an enforcer riding shotgun (watching his back) from time-to-time to ensure that opposing goons won't take a run at him without paying the price. It honestly wouldn't hurt for JG & Grats to develop a little chemistry together for when that scenario arises. The kid is so good that he should be able to produce with anyone.

I'm definitely warming up to Mr. Wolf the more clips I see. It seems it's dangerous to try and hit this guy! Looking forward to some more fun clips from the Edmonton pre-season game.

I second this, really hoping to see Sven put it all together and grab a spot out of camp.

Certainly, you might pair Johnny with one rugged player, but you have to have another high skill guy up front too or the other team can simply key on him and smother him. Gretzky often played with a guy like Semenko but he had Kurri too and often Coffey pinching on D. Johnny knows how the give-and-go works. Whoever plays with him is going to get some early Christmas presents.

I'd though (or at least hoped) that we signed Engelland so that we could have protection on the ice for Johnny without the need for a goon to be dragging down his line. Hopefully playing Gaudreau with McGrattan is just a training camp exercise and not something that is being used to judge how NHL-ready the kid is or a part of the plan going forward.

I wouldn't mind Wolf riding shotgun with Johnny in one of these exhibitions. Damn, whoever makes that first move would regret it. Plus Wolf is not too bad at hockey, either.
