I was very happy to see Baertschi score a goal.

I arrived with a couple minutes left in the first period of game one, so I didn't get a sheet with numbers and names, so it was a bit difficult to pick some guys out.

I think as last weekend went on and you heard more about Jooris, you find out he has all the tools and skills to be a regular NHL'er, just that he is wildly inconsistent. That's been his biggest knock so far this past week from all I have read and heard.

Gaudreau was definitely feeling things out today. I wouldn't slap farm team on him just now. He was still doing lots of things at both ends of the ice. Give it a week and he'll find his groove.

I really liked the newcomers today. Seto and Raymond were sharp. Brodie was solid. A couple nice shifts from Granlund against nhl defenders. Oh and Baertschi was a surprise. So many players though that I found myself fixating on just a handful whose numbers I recognized.

The intensity was through the roof for what was supposed to be a scrimmage. Players are trying to put their bid in for those spots early..

One more thing, how are the goalies doing? If Hiller pans out quite well, we could do way better than last year.

I'm hoping our rookies allow Treliving to make a trade for some higher level talent soon.

Oh, loved Hillers pads today. Dude knows how to tend in style. Was hard to get a read on him as he didn't have to face much (from what I got to see), but seemed pretty aggressive at the top of the crease and didn't allow for rebounds when shots came. Really going to need another few viewings to make an informed opinion.

Jooris reminds me of Reinhart, with a bit more of a crash the net offensive drive. And I'm a big Max Reinhart fan.

McGrattan is looking forward to the additions of Brandon Bollig and Deryk Engelland: "Good for our young guys to be around guys like that.”

Aaron Vickers@AAVickers23s
McGrattan: “I think we might have to have a rock-paper-scissors tournament to see who gets the guy," (that goes after any of the kids).

Win or lose, I think games will be fun to watch again this year.

Last year was an amazing year to watch hockey and to be a fan of the Flames. I think the group of players they have this year will be just as fun to watch and I think the results will be close to the same. Either way, it seems to be another promising year to be a Flames Fan.

Aaron Vickers@AAVickers3m
Bollig hasn't spent that much time watching Johnny Gaudreau, but said he can definitely see some comparisons to a young Patrick Kane.

Aaron Vickers@AAVickers3m
Bollig: “To be compared to a guy like Kaner, hopefully it’s not too big of a burden but I think the kid has all the skill in the world.”

The only reason anyone wouldn't like him is because they might have to fight him...

I've always thought Johnny would grow into a player very similar to Patrick Kane. Not at all surprised by that, but really encouraged by that at the same time, as Bollig has seen plenty of Kane first hand to be able to make that comparison.

Wes Gilbertson@SUNGilbertson50s

Interesting to hear #Flames coach Bob Hartley say today that LW Mason Raymond will also spend some time on right wing during camp.

Bill Arnold's dad is taking pictures of camp. He's got great shots on his Twitter account:

So the vets will own the RW with:
1.Hudler
2. Raymond
3. Setoguchi
4. D.Jones
5. Big Ern

I mean if thats how it all shakes down that leaves:
Glencross
Bollig
Colborne
as the NHL Vets with Gaudreau, Sven, Wolf and Granlund as the forwards vying for a roster spot.

I get the Feeling D.Jones won't be around come puck drop on opening day. Unless he outplays Setoguchi. Which I don't see as likely.

With the C depth pretty much set with Monahan, Backlund, Stajan, Bouma. Bennett is going to be hard pressed to make this roster.

I think he pretty much has to unseat Stajan to earn a spot.
