Ryan Johansen contract offers
Not sure if already discussed, but here are the numbers offered to Ryan:
Quote:
He announced that the team had offered Johansen $6 million over two years and $32 million over six years (which JD correctly said is more than Jamie Benn makes) and $46 million over eight years. Which is astronomical money for a player that has one standout season to his credit.

Kurt Overhardt is using Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane as comparables.

The two year offer seems low, but do you guys feel the lengthier offers were fair?

Two year offer isn't low, it's just short term. The guy had a good season, but it was one ... 5 mil plus a year for a guy who hasn't proven any consistency yet is hardly insulting.

I like Johansen. He's going to be a great player. He's had one good year, and should sign his goddamn bridge contract and get into camp.

So, the bridge deal is $3M AAV, for him to prove himself and earn the big contract, but then in the next breath, they are throwing $5.3M and $5.75M AAV offers at him on long term deals?
I don't get it.
The Blue Jackets are willing to pay him close to $6M/yr, so why not offer him $5+ AAV on a 2 year bridge deal, make him prove himself, but show him you're willing to pay. Rather than basically force him into a long term deal, when he hasn't proven he is worth $5+ consistently.
Seems like they have this negotiating thing backwards in Columbus.

He should just not be a holdout and sign with his dang team, like a good kid. Columbus needs him.

This is semantics, but he is not a hold out. He doesn't have a contract. Joe Nieuwendyk, he was a hold out. He had a contract, but didn't like the terms, so didn't report.
BTW, I think that the player should have signed by know, the offers are good for a one year producer. Take a 1-2 year deal, back yourself and then cash in.

Seems a bit low but at the same time not that far off. Players should have to prove a bit more before getting these massive deals.

Maybe when the cap was lower, but with it being 69 million and likely going up, makes him worth 4.5 or so for a bridge deal, IMO.

The first deal is definitely lowballing. Ultimately a deal will probably be hashed out at 4.5-5M but reason why they wouldn't want to go any higher is that would set the negotiating bar in the future for 6M+ deals. Not a terrible problem to have if Johanson continues to to produce/improve.

5m is right where I'd put his cap to be at for sure. Actually, I was anticipating a 7m a year pay out but it seems CLB is having none of that. So here we are.
It's too bad, because Columbus is not a better team without Johansen and this dispute is hurting them more the longer this goes. Because the longer he takes to get into game shape, the longer it will take for him to contribute.
This is so stupid, both sides of this dispute need to give their respective heads a shake.

Columbus offered Johansen $5+ million AAV over 5+ years because it buys UFA years. If they were to do that on a 2 yr term, the qualifying offer would be a lot higher than they would like if Johansen has 2 poor years.
Either way, the agent negotiating seems to be more interested in making a name for himself and his bank account, than the best interests of his client.

More than fair. He should take the money and run. You had 12 points in 40 games just the season before and nothing spectacular last year at 63 in 82 games. Contracts are getting absurd.

I don't much care for them negotiating through the media, but good on the Jackets for standing their ground on this one. I like Johansen a lot, but him and his hack agent are asking for an absurd amount of money.

Good offers for his situation imo (maybe 1mil shy for the bridge contract). Reason they don't want to pay him 5-6 for two years is because similar to the Subban thing at 7 mil.. I'm sure the 6mil he wants in a bridge is nowhere near his end game. Stamkos, Toews and Kane are comparables? To WHO exactly? GTFO

Stamkos, Toews and Kane are comparables? man I'd love to know what his agent is smoking. That's like saying a 93 Mustang LX is on even ground as a GT500. just crazy, Id just leave him and let him rot for a year.

33 goals (tied for 9th in the league) is nothing spectacular?

this is what stands out to me from the OP's quotes. "Kurt Overhardt is using Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane as comparables."
This is a bit silly. Ryan produced for his team for 1 season, no reason to through over 6 mil a year at him just yet. I think he should take the 3m per year and get his big payday after he establishes himself as someone who deserves it.
I hate entitlement and I have no patience for these sorts of disputes. So dumb, you get millions to do what you love, less than 1% of the population probably have that for their careers.
take the 2 year deal or the longterm, all seem fairly reasonable.

Told Overhardt-Johansen camp has extended a new two-year proposal to #CBJ this afternoon.

I wonder what they're asking for. 2 years at 6 mill per?
