Are you PT or FT? Do you have a minimum # of hours worked per week that are promised to you? Unionized?

What did you say to your manager? Did you agree?

When is your companies pay roll cut off? Bet you it's on the Friday he said is your last day.

everywhere that I've worked, if I've offered to work the two weeks or whatever notice is required and they don't accept it, they pay me out the that period

I would think if you give reasonable notice (which I think you have with the 2 weeks notice) and they tell you to come to work for less time, they still have to honor your 2 weeks notice and pay you for the full two weeks.
I had this situation happen to me recently - gave two weeks and then was walked out that day (went to a competitor) and I got paid out the full two weeks. They tried to just pay me for only a few days, but I put a little pressure on them and they folded pretty easy.

I'm not sure in Alberta, but you have to pay the 2 weeks/1 week here if notice is given but not accepted. The vast majority of the time you don't want an employee to "play out the string" and damage your business so you just pay it.

I am in the same situation as I am going to be moving to Vancouver. Already had discussions with my current manager and this is how it works I believe.
If you give 2 weeks notice, they have to pay you for 2 weeks regardless. So if they want you to work until Friday, that's fine but your next week you will get full pay. Same thing applies to giving 2 weeks and getting walked out that day. They have to pay you for 2 weeks according to labor laws. I am eventually going to be moving to a competitor and my manager is already aware of this, so as soon as I give my notice I will get walked out and paid for 2 weeks.

Yeah, we do it all the time. Basically you come in to give notice we show you the door right than and there and mail you your last two weeks. In my business 95% of people giving notice are going to a competitor so access, physical and otherwise is revoked. It's a bit over the top but that's the way it is.

What if you have only been working with the company for a couple/few months and are still in a probation period? Thanks

If you are still on your probation period, they do not have to pay you anything.

I have been there for 7 years and out pay structure is a 6 week holdback. Essentially when I started 7years ago I didn't receive a chexk for 6 weeks. When I leave I get paid out 6 weeks at once.
I'm just wondering if by not paying me for both weeks of my notice am I getting screwed out of pay

I have no idea if this is illegal, but holy moley that's weird. Most places I've worked you get paid out whatever notice time they don't want you to work.

Every company I ever worked for, walked you out the door and gave you 2 weeks pay if you gave notice.
Unless you were in management.
Then you were usually able to negotiate a severance.
