My one buddy said that they were bought out by Heiniken and that they pulled it out of North America. I don't know if that's true but I don't need another reason to absolutely despise Heiniken.

I could use it for houseboating next week. Maybe I'll try willowpark today.

SABMiller owns another 150, plus they have a marketing partnership with Molson-Coors, which controls another bunch of brands.

I see Big Rock actually take huge steps away from their roots, which I also view as a problem.

RIP to Ed though. Too bad I'm not in Calgary, tonight would be a good night to go to the Ship and get a McNally's Reserve.

I they were I agree. They were producing new garbage beers.

I now have a new favorite.

De Molen Rasputin Stout. Yes, with a name like that, the beer tasting good is only a bonus.

Highly recommend and at $15 for 4 @ Co-op, it's not that bad of a price.

I like IPA's but it's just out of control. National's beer list has 16 IPA's on it out of 70 beers. You just don't need that many IPA's. They have 3 weak stouts, no Imperials. They have one pilsner. Other restaurants are getting all IPA crazy too. Enough already.

I went to the Toolshed Brewery tour a couple weeks ago and was told that in Calgary the water is excellent for ales, but not good for lagers. The said Big Rock has to run their water through a reverse osmosis process to brew their lagers.

I'm not sure exactly WHY that is the case, but I can see that would be why smaller local brewers create ales.

And there must be a demand. Especially at place like National/Craft/etc where they regularly change their offerings. If there wasn't a demand for IPA then it wouldn't be on the taps very long.
