Anyone know the average PIM's of an NHL game? Just looking at the stats there it seems crazy high for all teams for 3 games haha.

Pre-season type games where players are trying to prove themselves will almost always have more fights/penalties than a normal game.

IMO Ferland is more feared by the opposition players. He and Carroll might be better at fighting than Smith and Kanzig. The two giants are big but their balance is not as good (especially Smith). Once they get their skating and balanced improved they would dominate in the toughness department.

I do like the play of Carroll.

I found that Kanzig and Smith really seemed to lose their balance frequently. If they can iron that out by improving their balance than they will be more effective.

So, Austin Carrol.

He's been noticeable in every game, surprisingly so, and seems like a solid utility guy.

Where'd he come from?

Last pick fro this last draft. Played in Victoria with Kanzig if I remember correctly.

Let's see if I got this right. Born in Calgary, raised in Arizona, plays for the Victoria Royals.

Plus, due to his age, he could play in the AHL this season, or he can play as an overager in Victoria.

IIRC, he said his grandparents live in Calgary and are season ticket holders, so he went to a lot of Flames games growing up.

From Carroll's play in the young stars tournament he looks almost ready for the AHL. Being 20 years old he would be eligible.

Hey guys, I just got back from a quick 3 week sail.. Have been out of the loop on how this tourny went and who looked good and not so much.

The last page helped me out with Kanzig and Carroll (Carroll impressing is great news. I always thought he was a vanilla type player but the more I think about it, the best type player I think he reminds me of is a Rob Niedermeyer when he played with the Flames, not necessarily with the Panthers..

Anyway.. Can someone give me a idea of who stood out, how Bennett, Granlund, Poirier, Klimchuck and Ferland looked? I know, I could go through the many threads of each game and the 16 pages of this one.. but a Summary from a knowledgable person would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Bennett - Looked great. Played with Gaudreau a lot. Basically came as advertised.

Granlund - Looked like the most NHL ready player on the whole Flames roster. Created tons of opportunities offensively, did the little things right.. I can't wait to see him make the NHL.

Poirier - Still recovering from surgery, didn't play.

Klimchuk - I was pretty disappointed with him. He wasn't bad, just didn't produce offense like I hoped he would.

Ferland - Huge surprise for me. Played great (I think he had 6 points?), a few fights.. He'll definitely spend some time in the NHL if he can stay healthy this year.

Bennett and Gaudreau were Bennett and Gaudreau. Nothing more really needs to be said about them. They're wizards.

Ferland and Granlund were quite possibly two of the best players in the tournament. I believe Ferland led the tournament in points (or goals?). Either way, they were outstanding alongside Jooris.

As the pleasant surprises, Carroll and Elson played outstanding in every game. Elson was balls to the wall every shift and even had scored a beauty of a goal.

Smith was very physical. As advertised. Had easily the biggest hit of the tournament. I'm sure you'll find it on YouTube. You really should look for it. Kanzig had a good first game, bad second game, then an okay third game.

Kulak and Culkin were all over the place IMO. I feel like they were trying to prove themselves too much instead of sticking to the basics. They were caught out of position a ton.

Ortio had a tough first game, but the defense left him out to dry. Mason MacDonald played well in his two games.

Should be noted that Elson was a surprise in my viewings. One of those "not expected to do much" players who I feel really did show maybe he had a future. Small sample size, but was much more dynamic
