Simpsons said it best.
Quote:
Homer: He _spanked_ you? _You_? Bart Simpson?
Bart: I begged him to stop, but he said it was for the good of the
nation.
Abe: Big deal! When I was a pup, we got spanked by Presidents till
the cows came home. Grover Cleveland spanked me on two
nonconsecutive occasions.
Marge: Grampa, I know in your day, spanking was common, but Homer and I
just don't believe in that kind of punishment.
Abe: And that's why your no-good kids are running wild!

Yeah, but lets also think about the circumstances in which people are raised, educated, and the communities they come from. You need to get into those places and provide them with enough resources to support the idea that some of these harsh methods of discipline are no longer acceptable. Has this been done adequately in all area's of the United States today?
Me being typical Canadian middle class white kid who grew up in decent neighbourhoods can sit on my soap box and tell everyone else what is and isn't acceptable ways to discipline children. I doubt this message has been delivered the same way in every school in Canada. I would hazard to guess that there are some communities where an abusive culture may still be present. I would also guess that it's more prevalent in the less affluent regions too.
What's AP's back ground? Where exactly did he grow up, and what's tolerated within the sub culture that is the community in which he was brought up?
They can make an example out of AP as a means of trying to change this approach to disciplining people. But the failure likely is that a lot of people are still being raised this way and not enough has been done to change the mindset prior to these incidents.

That would be the same as saying Ray Rice's dad always beats up his mom and it's natural that he beats up his wife too.

AP = Abusive Parent. But he'll be a Cowboy soon enough without doubt.
Quote:
The latest incident allegedly occurred last June, while the boy, who lives out of state, was visiting Peterson at his gated home in The Woodlands. A photo, allegedly texted by Peterson to the boy's mother, shows a head wound to the boy covered by two bandages. Other photos, allegedly taken weeks later, reveal a scar over his right eye.
The text messages also describe an exchange about what happened. They contain numerous misspellings and shorthand:
Mother: "What happened to his head?"
Peterson: "Hit his head on the Carseat."
Mother: "How does that happen, he got a whoopin in the car."
Peterson: "Yep."
Mother: "Why?"
Peterson: "I felt so bad. But he did it his self."
The text messages go on to show Peterson saying he was disciplining his son for cussing to a sibling.

It is amazing what money will do. This is a 220 pound man beating a child with a stick, and he gets a one game suspension. Kinda sickening.
Maybe there's a linebacker out there in the NFL who also got beaten by his father with a stick, and will decide to make an extra effort to blow this creep's knee out.

So are you agreeing with using violence as a way to discipline people who do wrong? Isn't that what you're piling on Adrian Peterson for doing?
I love CP for many reason but one thing I hate is when members of CP jump on a subject, get on their high horse, and act like there aren't parts of both sides that might have aspects of being right. I was spanked as a child and I don't feel it was a form of child abuse. I feel like it was a punishment for doing wrong and it detracted me from doing wrong in the future. Are there other ways that people can ( and have tried) to discipline their children? Of course there are, but to come out and insinuate that all spanking is considered child abuse is ridiculous.

What do you call it? If not abuse than what? There are other ways, better ways, to teach a child right from wrong.

I'm saying it wouldn't be all that bad if this guy got hurt in a football game. It's a little different than hitting a child with a stick. I wouldn't consider it discipline, either.

I didn't insinuate anything. This man repeatedly hit his child with a stick. A week later, there were still marks on the kid's body. It doesn't take a high horse or even a Shetland pony to know that this is wrong. You can't argue that. Unless you can, and I gotta admit I'm kinda curious what an argument for it would sound like.

Maybe there are other "better ways but some people would argue thatkids/young adults lack the aspect of taking responsibility for their actions and respect for other people in general. They would say that spankings, in the previous generations, is how people were instilled with those aspects.
Am I saying I agree completely with it? Nope but I think there are some shreds of truth to that argument.

In November 2013, Minnesota Vikings cornerback A.J. Jefferson was arrested on a felony count of domestic assault by strangulation, CNN affiliate KARE reported.
His 23-year-old girlfriend claimed to have been in an early morning domestic dispute with Jefferson, who yelled and grabbed her neck, CNN affiliate WCCO reported.
On the day of his arrest, Jefferson was cut by the Minnesota Vikings, the NFL reported

The other part thats disturbing about this child abuser is after his assaults he texts the mother of the child since they all have different mothers, and sends them a report of the whooping and a picture.
Sick guy.
Most people try to do their kids better then they had it as children, and wouldn't be beating them like they got beat. This isn't 1970 buddy, times have changed. Sickening.

Hitting kids is abuse.
You know what you teach kids when you hit them, that physical actions/hitting is an acceptable response to situations you don't like.
Adults are supposed to have higher learning/teaching abilities.
The justifications for hitting kids is bull#### put forward by cowards.

Hitting a kid doesn't teach respect it teaches fear. Hitting a kid with a branch or switch or whatever stupid name you want to call it is abuse.
AP is a POS for not knowing better.
