Clutter up the roster with crap. Only happy with this tryout if he fails to make the team. Promote from within the baby Flames please.

Thanks for clarification.
Me-ow.

Diaz is coming in to compete for a 7th dman/pressbox spot. Rather him sitting there than Wotherspoon ect.

Even if there is an injury I would presume that they would call up a kid as fast as possible and let 7th dman sit in pressbox.

Treliving seems to like him a bunch. Made an effort to point out Diaz was very under rated in the defensive aspects of his game. Shot Blocking and positioning mainly.

And I think it is fair to say right now after yesterday, even if it was only one game, tat the Flames D prospects have a ways to go yet before contending for a roster spot.

Outside of the first period, Ramage and Kanzig were about the only two who stood out for me.

So in the short term (this coming season) I can see Diaz earn a contract. And it won't be a bad thing.

Agreed, no one is certain yet though on if he'll be good to go for main camp though. I hope they don't rush him back. Still Wotherspoon is on a different level than the rest of the Flames D propspects. In my mind he's an NHL'er.

People are making way too big of a deal out of these "veteran signings". Last year, the team had more vets on its roster than this year, and 12 players made their NHL debut on the Flames last year. There will be plenty of room for rookies to earn time with this lineup.

Unless Wideman is traded, there's no way Diaz will replace him. I can't believe people are even suggesting that. Wideman isn't the best but he's a legitimate NHL defenseman on any team. Diaz is a fringe player at best. I also don't see him replacing Russell. He'll be the 7th defenseman or he won't be here.
